The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported six new cases in state quarantine over a 24-hour period on Friday (August 28), the 95th day without any domestic cases in Thailand since May.

The infected persons, three Thais and three foreigners, were all asymptomatic.

Among them is a 45-year-old Thai welder in state quarantine in Bangkok, who returned from Uzbekistan on August 13 and tested positive on Monday and 36-year-old Thai woman who returned from the Philippines on August 15, and tested positive in the Chonburi state quarantine on Thursday.

A 44-year-old Thai woman and a 62-year-old American man who holds a Thai work permit travelled in the same flight from Germany on August 22. The American man, staying in an alternative state quarantine in Bangkok, and the Thai woman in a state quarantine facility in Samut Prakan were both found positive on Wednesday.

A 36-year-old Ethiopian woman, who is here for medical treatment, and her 34-year-old husband arrived on Wednesday and checked into an alternative hospital quarantine in Bangkok. Both of them checked positive on the same day.

As of Friday, the total number of confirmed cases in Thailand stood at 3,410 (473 found in state quarantine), of whom 115 are in hospital and 3,237 have recovered and discharged. The death toll remains unchanged at 58.

Globally, the total number of confirmed cases rose to 24.6 million (7.6 million active cases), up by 282,000. Of them, 17 million have recovered, while 835,000 have died so far.

Thailand ranks 120th in terms of most cases in the world, while the list is led by the US with 6.04 million infections, followed by Brazil 3.76 million, India 3.38 million, Russia 976,000 and Peru with 622,000.

What happened to the preflight covid test? Maybe they caught it on the plane

So the unfortunate American, who would have had to have produced a negative test result from within 3 days before the flight, before being allowed onboard, somehow contracted the virus. He was travelling in close proximity with a large number of Thais who didn't require such a test, at least one of whom, we now know, already had it.

He could of course have caught it in the 72h before the flight, but.....

Surely time to get rid of this glaring inconsistency?

With all these returnees testing positive for covid, and having been negative before the flights, It makes me wonder if Thailand is using the crappy Chinese test kits, given to them by their friends in China.

It also makes me wonder what happens and it will when Tourists test positive if they open up Phuket ?

Funny how so many return positive, maybe just a ploy to keep the population scared of the virus and keep the borders closed.

A good indication that borders are not safe to open up for tourism yet.

This daily charade looks like ASQ is doing its job but look who is telling you it is the problem ????

This virus is widespread and incredibly contagious.  If they did random testing in the thai population they would see similar results.  Instead they target incoming to leave the impression it is controlled here.

enough with this nonsense.

if thailand will start checking domestic people, thailand will find

as much corona positives people as in the u.s.

this does not mean, of course, that they will show symptoms and get sick.

so all will stay same same. the virus is real the pandemic is a lie.

the virus is real the pandemic is not.

aventually 70% of the world population will get infected with this virus, most of them without

getting sick, and

than it will be the end of it.

Would be interesting to know the ratio of travelers entering vs. entering and then testing positive within 7 days.

I imagine this might just be useful when making decisions about when, and if, to open borders.

Anybody seen these stats anywhere?

You don't really know how these anti-covid procedures work, do you?

The whole point, surely, is that Thais don't have to get tested before the flight, but foreigners do (which was the reason for my post #4). Clearly the American, who'd been tested before the flight, caught it from one of the Thais, because they hadn't been tested. Of course there will be those who suggest he may have got it in the 72h between test & flight.

An extremely well padded bill for the  $100,000 USD covid-19 Insurance you got suckered into.

Would be interesting to see follow-up information on all those testing positive when going into quarantine. How many had to be hospitalized, how many remained asymptomatic and had to in stay in quarantine after the initial 14 days, how many tested positive on arrival and left quarantine after subsequent testing came up with negative results.

Anyone aware of this information being available?
