"Farang" renter causes nothing but trouble - smashes up property when asked to leave

"When actually arrived, took about 10 foreign teenage boys to raise more than those who smoke and drink alcohol. Annoy the neighbors"

They probably just had problems to understand each other...

The story reeks of creative imagination and some minor feud. Add screaming katoys and a few sound effects and it's 100% Thai.

Yep, life here is just one big soap opera.......

Sounds like the police did the right things.  Last thing they want to get involved in is a he said she said battle.  What surprises me is she did not change the locks when he was out.

As to the burmese boys the t\point that is missing is what natinality is he.  Maybe he is burmese and they used his apt as a flop house

Why would she damage her property and then incur cost for a court case too?

It has happened here before, so yes property owner could have done the damage.

The 10 boys weren't there too?

He paid his rent on time?

They stated it were boys, you are making something different of it.

Yes, but were they 18 year old boys , likely to be working and paying rent , or were they 12 year old boys?

Quite often young men are referred to as boys , it makes a big difference to this story

BREAKING NEWS- The mans Identity revealed: Richard Barrow

Is that true or a joke ?

I guess it is too much to ask for Nationalities to be give.  I am tired of Farang  and Foreigner being used to scapegoat everyone.  We are not all bad,  I certainly don't think I would be regarded as Bad

I hope everyone has completed their 90 day report as yesterday the covid grace period expired.

Be nice to get his side

You are gonna be a bit narked if your 40 incher goes for a walk. Maybe taken as a down payment......who knows.

Stuff around him drinking and smoking is just nit picking and reasons to add to the list of whinges, so I would think that she aint got that much to complain about apart from non payment of bills......which is enough if true.

The news says the boys were teenagers. Hmmmm, why the old English guy have Burmese teenager freinds? Play video game together

How do you know his age and Nationality ?

Regardless of nationality - totally unacceptable behaviour to smash up the property of someone else.

If the renter caused the damage claimed, and i say if, he should be arrested charged with criminal damage.

This story seems a bit dodgy to me, maybe a disagreement between farang and property owner, and property owner broke a mirror and windows, it is a possiblity, did anybody see the farang doing the damage?

Point taken. I owned/rented out a luxury villa on Jomtien Beach several years back. Regrettably I told the agent farang tenants only.

First tenant was a well know highly successful very big/strong Brit guy in business in Pattaya. He rented the villa, told the agent he was going to live there with his wife. Turns out it was his Thai mere noi. There were several violent fights (farang & his Mn - Mn and Thai husband - Mn and her second farang teeluk), all with severe damage. Plus Brit guy had twice picked up motorcycles and thrown them in the pool, both times doing extensive damage to the tiling on the edge of the pool.

The agent luckily knew a snr. Pattaya who went to the property and took numerous photos, he called the Brit guy and told him to come to the cop shop immediately. Cop estimated damage was about 300,000Baht, he told the Brit guy 'get it fixed and properly within 7 days or your business will be ordered closed and you will be deported, and I will put 2 cops on duty 24 hrs from now to monitor your movements. It was all well repaired inside the 7 days.

---------------------------

Same property, agent was contacted by a petro-chemical giant at Ma Tha Phut, they needed a house for a specialist Engineer and his farang wife, soon to arrive. On arrival they liked the property and moved in. The husband had put his wife in charge to do everything about accommodation etc.  I had agreed to accept the rent by ATM transfer.

Date for first payment passed, I called the wife, she claimed illness and cannot understand the Thai instructions on the K Bank ATM (located inside a major shopping centre) and she called and asked me to drive from Bkk to Pattaya every month to get the rent money.

I refused  and made it clear I did not accept that the ATM onlt has Thai language. Next day I got an ATM transfer but about 15% short of the quite substantial rent amount. I called her, she claimed the amount she had transferred was the upper limit and told me, I'm not paying for and extra  ATM transfer. I called the  husbands' company at Mt Ta Phut, and spoke to the farang  in charge of all expat stuff, he revealed that he had discovered there had been many problems with this couple in other countries where they had been posted. He indicated that he would go the house and help the wife to call K BAnk and get the daily limit raised and demand she immediately transfer the unpaid rent. Hardly a month went by where the rent was paid on time.

Also, one month the rent as paid 40% short, I called her, she inisted that becasuuse the weather had been cooler they had not used the pool therefore she reduced the rent.

Also, another issue with the pool, the engineer husband has estimated that the electric motor on the filter etc., equipment was 12% too big, therefore she paid the electric bill short and sent me an e.mail demanding that I pay the additional electric costs.

Also, she had twice a week access to a company driver to take her shopping, but all the company drivers were refusing to drive for her because she was abusive and had smacked the face of one of the drivers. She had reported one driver for stealing her change (1 X 25 satang coin), which was discovered in the vans glove box. The guy in charge of expat matters called all the drivers in and one mentioned damage to the house and everything very dirty. Bottom line, the expat matters guy went to the house and took photos and he estimated repairs etc to be around 150,000Baht.

It was also revealed the enginer husabnd wasn't fulfilling his duites. The CEO decided they be sent home immediately and instructed that the damage to my house and 1 company car be deducted from the husbands final salary payment.

The company put one of their young Thai civil engineers on a task to get my house repaired, and it was done well and quickly.

Bottom line, I wouldn't rush to believe farang are good tenats.

I am in no way saying farangs are good tenants.

I said if the farang caused the damage he needs charged with it.

I also pointed out only the landladies word he did the damage,.

It happened a few years ago near Buriram, landlady damaged her own property and blamed the farang.

Yes looks awful.

Back to the question......have you got a link that says he’s an “old English guy“ If so can you post it as the report doesn’t mention his age or country of origin.

A crazy action from the foreigner as the old lady was offering to refund the deposit so he can move out with the ten 'friends'.

Maybe a misunderstanding and the foreigner demolishing the room as he was thinking the didn't get the deposit back. (six month prepayment)

Stupid and now he degrade our good 'farang' name and I wish him pay for everything.

Could be that the Old English guy (info from Yinn) Sublette the property out to Burmese guys and they were asked to leave and THEY smashed it up before leaving , I dont believe that Brits would do such a thing

Yep you probably got it right on playing videos. Probably had something to do with their Joy sticks. He probably couldn't pay his rent because he was supporting too many Boys. Sorry for the fun poke at the vulgarity.

Yourself and Yinn have completely re written the story

If and a big if he did the damage one must ask why?

Having had several deposits stolen over the years and massive electricity Bill's appearing, I can assure you I felt like doing this a few times. Then the matter of the missing TV.

Also there is a possibility the lady did this to take the heat off of the stolen tv.

OK. Sorry about that. Unfortunately small news like this can have a tendency to get blown up in the Thai media making us foreigners look bad. And this is not a nice story anyway you look at it.

so now this house is cheap to rent ?

????

In our experience it's the long term renters have been the biggest problem they think because they are paying they have this divine right to do what they want, I could tell you some stories from Phuket,

Short term better we can control it better,
