Irrigation department react with signage after illegal use of Bang Phra reservoir

An angry post on the Red Skull Forever site indicated that groups of young people were illegally driving into the Bang Phra reservoir in the Si Racha area.

They were fishing, drinking and turning on loud music.

But things got bad for the groups in their pick-ups when the irrigation department released water from the Bang Pakong river and they got stuck in the resulting floods.

Several pick-ups became stuck and others who tried to rescue them including a ten wheeler also got caught in the mud.

Local irrigation department chief Thanakorn Suthin said he was aware of the illegal activity and had acted swiftly.

His answer to the problem was more signage in the area forbidding use of the reservoir.

Good heavens whats the place coming to, fishing, drinking, loud music?????????????????

They are only doing what most Thais do all the time, so why get excited about it.

Well done to whoever came up with that idea.......genius.

Kids - how stupid can they get

Turning on the tap seems to work well at quelling the noise

That should fix it in the same way Thai drivers respond to red traffic lights.

Why don't these guys just drive around the streets of Pattaya next time it rains and flood?  They can have the same fun.  ????

Pulled this lot out in 2015.

well, signage has a history of effectiveness; the children and teacher(!) that got trapped in the cave walked past a sign warning of the danger of flooding...

switching on the water is probably the best solution, the authorities aren't going to do anything.

As I read it, someone deliberately let the water out knowing their were members of the public there.

This reservoir is a valuable local recreational facility and when low it exposes the old roads and tracks. People have been driving down to the waters edge for years.

My guess is that the water was either released in error or on purpose by an unqualified employee and the authorities are just trying to cover up a major and potentially dangerous mistake.
