Six Chinese were arrested in Tak’s Mae Sot district today (September 3) after illegally entering Thailand via the Myanmar border.

At 1am, soldiers and immigration police stopped a van with the Chinese passengers at a checkpoint in Mae Sot district.

The Chinese, who worked in Myanmar and crossed the border into Thailand via the Moei River, had expired visas.

All of them were promptly arrested, together with the van driver and another Thai passenger.

The six Chinese were charged with illegal entry, while the two Thais were arrested for helping foreigners illegally enter the country.

I am just baffled! They are arresting people that are illegally sneaking in to a country through natural borders during an emergency decree caused by a pandemic. Not more than a couple of lines of news. When they find a foreigner on overstay, they write a full book. In other countries where they find people trying to sneak in illegally in the country during an emergency decree they will be shot.

Thai are not hard hearted. Actually very soft hearted generally. They treat farang harder because farang immigration treats Thai mercilessly. And too many farang think they are morally superior albeit patronising girlie bars and prostitutes of both genders. A change of attitude and behaviour of both sides is required for farang-Thai harmony to bloom.

Immigration services around the world have very good cause to treat any Thai, or anyone from other less wealthy nations, with suspicion for obvious reasons. They could well be seeking to enter and not leave again as wages and living standards are usually higher, or perceived to be from afar. And Thai women in particular are known for liking to work night shifts as entertainment providers. Immigration services and embassies have seen it all and heard the stories a hundred times and are naturally cautious with those from countries whose citizens are known to be economical with the truth.
