In Thailand you need 2 years on the job, plus income receipts, to obtain most credit cards.

Besides airlines/travel services, who takes an AMEX Card in Thailand.

True, and they are an outstanding company to deal with if anything goes wrong, unlike dealing with VISA where everything is your fault.

Many places.  I shop with mine at most stores including buying my groceries with it.  I earn my miles into my Delta Airlines account by using it and there is no foreign transaction fee's either.  I also pay my mortgage this way as well.  Builds up my frequent flier miles.  Only airline here I have found not to accept it is Air Asia.

That depends on the bank who issued your card. I always have the best service from all my Canadian visa cards.

True, with only exception is when asking for temp higher credit where with Citibank it's done by simple phone call and amex won't do it (well, last time I needed that was over 10 years ago - things might have changed).

Amex also react fast. Many years ago I topped the tank at a petrol station and they refused the 1xxx baht charge. Angrily I called them to ask WHY?  they said the card was charged at the same place and same amount twice within a couple of minutes so they suspected something was wrong and blocked the 2nd charge. When asked the attendant why he charged twice he said the machine was out of paper and no slip was coming out, so he replaced the roll but didn't know he can actually reprint the last transaction so he charged again...

I'd imagine that they are a bit more thorough with new applicants now, simply because of the dire economic situation.

Why not just provide the 3 months worth of tax docs the bank is asking for so your CC application can be completed by them?

It's about what region Or country you open the account, services and and "agreements" are different for the same card. Depends on where address of the account holder is and where the card has been used, different rules apply. Definitely western account treatment is very different than here. The rules anD "agreements" are different. Even in the US some particular services agreement are not the same in different states.

Credit limit could be the reason. Your credit limit will be based on your income.

I guess you have an account with City Bank. So they know your financial standing. Amex doesn't.

Why don't you ask them?

Back in the '90s you had to let them add 5% to the net price to cover the AMEX fee.
