Hello to all!

I am planning a trip to Thailand in late June or July. I read that if I am staying in Thailand for less than 30 days I do not need a VISA, only a passport. Is this correct? I dont have experience traveling without a VISA so I am just seeking confirmation of some sort.

Thank you in advance. :o

Visa regulations vary according to nationality. What is yours?

That is only true if you have onward air tickets out within those 30 days and can show 10,000 baht or more (one person) to support your stay.

I am a US citizen planning on staying 2-3 weeks.

I will be purchasing round trip tickets, so I will have onward air. Also I will be carrying more than 10,000 Baht, and have hotel reservations. I will be staying in Bangkok, then going to Roi Et for a day or so, and we might also go the Phuket for a few days. Will this have any impact on whether I should get a visa or not?

You should be fine if your passport is not full of other 30 day stamps (airlines may have to start checking that in the future). But a visa is cheap and you have plenty of time so if there is any chance you might want to stay an extra week or two I would opt for the visa.

during the last two months i had several times guests from abroad. yesterday another couple arrived. neither were they asked to show a return ticket nor was there any question how much cash they carry.

I am providing the official requirement for entry without visa. Many long distance airlines seem to check for an onward ticket for those without visa and indeed that is what they are instructed to do when they check the IATA database. Immigration will seldom make checks at airport for arrivals from most countries but land crossing may and indeed entry from Cambodia will not currently be allowed without onward ticket. The proof of funds is also asked of selected travelers.
