A security guard with the Provincial Electricity Authority performed a citizen's arrest after a 52 year old local man went berserk with a one foot knife in Mae Sai,Chiang Rai in the far north of Thailand.

Police were soon on the scene and took Pornchai into custody and called his relatives.

Many people were injured in the incident, said Daily News, who reported that Ayi, 57, was one of the worst with slash wounds to his neck and body.

His wife Eu said her husband had gone out to buy some food then came across the scene of Pornchai going crazy. He had tried to get away but had been chased by the suspect.

She said that the PEA's Kittithorn had brought down the suspect who had been milling about the area prior to the incident.

Others said that Pornchai lived alone and liked to talk to himself and had attacked people before. His relatives had taken him in for treatment.

But on this occasion he got on his motorcycle and then started smashing up a door and windows of a house before attacking people. They heard him complain that he had lost money.
