Work Permit Advice Please

Featured Replies

Hi I was hoping someone could give me some advice on work permits...

I'm on a non-imm b multiple entry visa. I need to leave by the 5th of this month on a visa run but I think I've just about sorted out my employment now so I was going to get a work permit.

So I have a few questions:

1. Do I just ask the company to sort it out? Or do I have to apply to somewhere?

2. How long does the process normally take?

3. Will I still need to leave the country on the 5th?

And finally...a point aside. I'm normally a british resident. If i'm earning money here who do i pay taxes to? And do I need to apply for tax reference numbers etc?

thanks in advance for your help!

1: Company should sort it out.

2: last time, mine took a few weeks.

3. if you apply next week, you should be able to get at least an extension, while your WP is still in process.

As for the tax question

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/international/treatiest.htm

Just search for "Thai taxes" in the search tool at the top

If you think you may one day try and get a residents certificate you will need to show them you paid tax here in Thailand for several years.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for all the advice. That's great!

I've got a multiple entry non imm b at the moment so I can still go out and come back again. I think I might have to do that this time. But obviously if I can just get an extension that would be great! Do i have to go to the immigration dept to request one? and how much does it cost?

Many thanks again

John
