Your understanding is not fully correct, but it is in your advantage.

When applying from your Tourist Visa for the 90-day Non Imm O Visa for reason of marriage, the required 400K funds ONLY need to be on your personal Thai bank-account (a joint one is not accepted by IO) at the moment of application.

That moment of application has to be when you have at least 15 days (some IOs require 23 days) left on your permission to stay.

Are you applying based upon retirement or marriage to a Thai. For retirement you need 800k baht in a Thai bank.

You can apply for the 90 day non immigrant visa at any time now up to to the last 15 days of your 60 day extension. As said the 400k or 800k baht would only need to be in the bank on the day you apply. If for retirement you would have to show proof the 800k came from abroad.

Then you could a apply for the one year extension of stay during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry from the visa. At that time the funds would have to be in the bank for 2 months.

I have been married to a Thai for 34 years. I am told I only need 400 k in bank.

You will be applying for the visa and extension of stay based upon marriage not retirement. Those only require 400k baht in a Thai bank.

They may of done the 60 day extension so that you would have a permit to stay date instead of the amnesty.

As I wrote before you could apply now for the 90 day non immigrant visa (category O) entry since you have the 400k baht in the bank in your name only. List of required documents are here. https://bangkokimmigration.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/06-edit_NON-O.pdf

So are you saying if I sold some asset in Thailand and got half from abroad this is no good?

If you have proof the funds you have here were earned here legally they would be accepted along with the remainder from abroad.

OP would be applying for the 90-day Non Imm O Visa for reason of MARRIAGE.  In that case there is no need to provide evidence of the origins nor source of the funds when using the 400K money-in-bank method.  Only requirement is that the +400K is on a personal Thai Bank-account of the applicant at the moment of application.

The funds then need to stay there for at least 2 months, and evidence of that has to be shown when applying for the 1-year extension of stay based on that Non Imm O marriage Visa in the last month of the 90-day permission to stay that Visa provided him.

The funds should also remain there during the 3-4 week 'under consideration' period of his 1-year marriage extension, and once the 1-year permission to stay has been stamped in his passport he is free to use the funds as he pleases, only to top up again to +400K two months before his NEXT extension of stay application.

I think vandeventer may of been asking about a extension based upon retirement after reading this in my previous post.
