Praphat Panyachatrak, president of the National Farmers Council (NFC), said the council hopes the new law that allows farmers to grow marijuana and hemp for export will be fully enacted next year.

“The legislation draft is being considered by the Public Health Ministry and the National Legislative Assembly, and should be announced soon,” he said. “NFC has always been advocating the cultivation of both plants and we hope new laws will make it easier for farmers to apply to grow them.”

Praphat added that under the new law, farmers can get a permit to grow the plant as soon as they get an order from overseas, without having to cooperate with universities or medical institutes.

The NFC president added that the council is also considering reviving the project of growing wild konjac as biofuel.

“Wild konjac used to be an economic crop in many provinces, but was abandoned later due to a lack of market,” he said. “Now we are thinking of promoting it again to use as fuel for community power plants, which the Energy Ministry plans to put in place as soon as possible.”

Eh .!

Farmer gets a permit then grows the order .?

4 mths is time from seed to harvest even under artificial cultivation .. add drying and processing and that is nearer four and half mths ..

I guess they will realize soon that you need to know what you're doing to get nice flowers. Its not a magic cash crop if you just throw some seeds in the ground.

Good point .. same as Wine and Whisky ganj' improves with curing so the time frame would be even longer .. the other thing that is very sparse on detail is the legal issue's of export .. particularly to countries where it is illegal ..

I guess its like everything else here . Lots of meetings/committees looking at the end goal without all the important steps inbetween

Who would buy it? License for export is one thing, getting one to sell in another country a complete different one.

Importing the the nice seed from Amsterdam or California - Illegal go to jail

Rolling and smoking a fattie - illegal and go to jail and foreigners black listed

Growing and exporting taking peoples money - OK

Amazing Thailand

I thought the idea was to grow, process and use within Thailands medical industry under strict supervision... seems the goalposts have moved?

Yep, Thai Government The Illegal International Drug Dealers .The whole world will have a good Laugh.

Really what a stupid game we have here. Sell to the world? Yet not use in Thailand for any  reason? Then Look at all the people that serviced time in prison or even executed / Look at the brides paid to prevent going to jail? What Police do disband the Drug squad? Who will get the bride for allowing the sell? Share with the poor?

Silly

The main mover is a very senior cabinet minister who already has a few farms.

Fat track coming.
