For a friend ....So I am filling out the 'by mail' application form. I get to who shall we contact in an emergency and it will only allow US States!! So stuck...guess I will have to ask her for someone in the US as I can't see a work around.

 

So some US person on ThaiVisa must have applied to renew their US Passport recently...how did you do it please?   tks

Where are you physically located?

 

Where is your friend physically located?

 

Are you struggling with the DS-82, Section 13?

 

If so, I would ask the friend for ANY contact...

Thanks ... both in Thailand ... anyway now she has given me her daughters address in the US. Just have to start again filling the form in.

I simply went to the Embassy and asked them to renew my passport. Got the new one rather quickly, within 10 days, I believe. This was a few years back. 

Renewed my USA passport by mail to the US Embassy in Bangkok about 3 months ago.  The turn around was about 3 weeks or so, which was much quicker than I expected considering all passports are made at one of the two passport offices in the USA and with the coronavirus situation.

I left the "emergency contact" blank when I applied for my new passport a few weeks ago and there wasn't any problem. It took 12 days from when I mailed it to the Embassy in Bangkok till I received the new passport (also in Bangkok).

Just got new passport in September.  Still have copy of application.  Left this area of the form blank, no problem.  Have N/A in state.

Thanks guys. Have now completed the form and printed, also printed the check sheet along with a list of what to do next and given all to her. It has changed as in the past you made an appointment to go to the embassy.
