webfact
Over 5,000 Thai labourers in Sweden and Finland to return home this month By THE NATION Nearly 5,300 Thai labourers who have been working as berry-pickers in Sweden and Finland will gradually return home between now and October 22, Labour Minister Suchart Chomklin said. “The first group of 498 workers arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport on October 1 and will have to stay in either Alternative State Quarantine or Organisation Quarantine for 14 days to prevent the spread of Covid-19,” he said. “Their employers will be responsible for all the expenses during quarantine.” “Sending Thai labour to work overseas is one of the ministry’s missions following the policy of Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha to promote the skills of Thai labourers in international markets and assure the world of Thailand’s efficiency in Covid-19 prevention,” he added. Department of Employment director-general Suchart Pornchaiwisetkul asked Thais who seek seasonal work overseas to do so via the department to ensure that they are properly protected under labour laws and against Covid-19 infection. “The department has set up measures together with the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration to ensure that Thai workers overseas have proper lodging, equipment and transport that protect them from the risk of infection,” he said. Afaik minimum wage doesn't include the cost of all the expenses for a 15 days quarantine in Thailand when yours ex-workers are back in their country. But maybe i am wrong and maybe the Finn berry farmers will be more than pleased to pay for it I am sure the farmers of my country of origin never will pay for it they will prefer to look at cheaper workers in another country for the next year Cheap hard workers are not in short supply all over the world, unfortunately Edited October 2, 2020 by kingofthemountain

You can freely pick the berries as you want? I ask just out of curiosity, as i don't really know how this business works but it sounds very strange for me that Thais come that far to do it in the cold and more than strange than the Thai governement asks to the ''employers'' to pay for all the quarantaine bills after the work is done and the thais are back in Thailand who are exactly these ''employers'' ? Edit i have just seen your post, so it's a Dutch company, employing Thai people to pick berries in the woods of Swedish and Finland, asked now by the thai govermement to pay the quarantine bill for all the thai workers? Interesting... Edited October 2, 2020 by kingofthemountain
