BANGKOK, Oct 13 (TNA) – Executives of Charoen Pokphand Group (CP) brought consultants to survey the 220-kilometer-long route of its high-speed railway project from Bangkok to the East.

The delegation chartered an eastern train for the survey from the Hua Lamphong station in Bangkok to the Ban Phlu Ta Luang railway station in Chon Buri province.

CP’s executives in the trip included its chairman Suphachai Chearavanont.

Hopefully they will also "survey" the economics of the railway.

It was authorized by Prayut under Article 44 that waives all relevant laws and regulations including economic feasibility and anti-corruption laws.

Thai economists criticized the lack of any precursor economic analysis regarding Prayut's authorization of the Thai-China high speed dual rail system also authorized by Prayut under Article 44. In hindsight some academics believed a possibility of bankruptcy for the system.

High speed rail and other forms of high speed transport need to be developed here. Thailand is decades behind the curve. The highways are so cluttered with trucks of all sizes, due to an unwillingness to invest in rail cargo. It represents an astonishing lack of vision.

Any of these 'consultants' on a day trip from China?

Probably the 1st time Suphachai has ever been on a Thai train of any nature.

High speed trains....hmm...this will give the motorists some fast moving objects to dodge at the crossing

I got a better idea before our leader bankrupts the country with his obsession for high speed trains.

Grab the SRT executives by the ear & get them to go back to basics of running an efficient railway system not just counting all the money they collect from rental properties.

That is not their brief. They have to be the most inefficient Government Department ever

Ironically, that class of locomotive (LNER J69) had the nickname "Buckjumpers".

We can expect any number of "bucks" to be variously jumped and passed as the decision making process for this High Speed Railway grinds tortuously on and on.
