I just put in a couple of days/dates to compare for my LAST run out which was in March...

Lon-Bangers-Sydney-Bangers- London..and on the TG intern site it came up as .....

...1 adult(s) x (10,614.00 + 253.30 Tax) = 10,867.30 GBP

Total £ 10,867.30 GBP ....First Class :o but I did not pay that.....

Seat 2 A all the way.......

I have booked a return flight from London in August for £1985 in Royal Silk Class, I notice that the same trip from Bangkok to London is quoted as a little under £1700 on the Thai website.

It's a very good service but frightening when you work it out at the cost per hour.

Too much, not worth the bother unless you have heaps of dosh to throw away.

Yeah, considering most of the time your asleep eh?!

Thai airways have a special on for royal silk (which I presume is business class)

an LHR-BKK-RT is £1520 tax is £174. Travel must between now and Jun25.

At GBP 1700 approx 3 times the cost of an economy class ticket.

As much as the trip was very nice... 1100 quid over the economy ticket is a bit too much.

Ive racked up a few airmiles over the last couple of years and will go for redemption upgrades instead.

it used to be the case, and you'd have to do the sums again, but to use your FF points for an upgrade ranther than for a ticket means the points are anywhere from 3x to 5x more value than using them for a simple economy ticket.

My last trip (mentioned already) ..Lon-Bangkok-Sydney-Bangkok-London was rated at from memory 180,000 air miles but because it was a Birthday thingy "present" from Thai ...1 month either way...they gave me it for half Air miles...ie 90,000 which I had already accumulated.. and only paid the tax .

Good flight, service, goody bags , etc ....2 Toilets for in one case ...2 passengers ..... :D but personally I prefer travelling Business Class ...upstairs ....can only eat and drink Soooo Much......

Still got enough left for my next trip upgrade but me thinks after that it might be back to Iraq/Air Afganistan ..... International. :o

LHR - BKK route you can do a one way upgrade at the airport for $760. If you can find yourself a return ticket for say £500 and you decide to upgrade on both legs at the airport (subject to availability of course!) the whole thing works out at less than £1400 inc taxes. Personally i would pay this, much better to cash in your points (or purchase extra). New sleeper seats in business are interesting ...lots of legroom as you would imagine but no matter how many buttons the seat had, i could never get to a horizontal sleeping postioning. The seats keeps extending at an almost 45 degree angle. Maybe that was just me!! Eva air premium economy is the way to go !!

Yep...that was April....but its now May and they (especially Thai) have whacked UP their prices :o ...by over £100..... :D

A week is a LONNNG time..

Just got a couple of quotes and the prices have dropped again

...£480..R/T ...Lon - CM...on TG ..thats better........wheres me upgrade .... :D

They won't go comp[letely flat.. They got to about 20deg off horizontal. Some do have flat beds - BA for example. Etihad is a good one with flat beds. Cheap too, but it means a stop over in Abu Dhabi.

Agreed - this is the best seat in the plane IMHO.

I had a free 1st class return c/o TG airmiles and a second c/o an upgrade from business class. The list price I was comparing against for an open Christmas return was about GBP 8,000. working out the averages I think the cost per return flight I paid was something like GBP600. Well worth it.

Why would anyone want to go with Thai biz when you can get a fully flat bed on BA for the same $$$?

I've flew with both in Biz and BA wins hands down!
