Leonardo da Vinci: Mona Lisa has hidden dots and lines beneath its brushstrokes, scientist claims (Image: GETTY / PASCAL COTTE)

The iconic early 16th Century painting, which currently hangs in the Louvre Museum, in Paris, is considered to be among Leonardo da Vinci’s greatest masterpieces.

Despite his notoriety, mystery surrounds much of the artist’s life and many still debate the identity of the Mona Lisa.

But scientist Pascal Cotte, who digitised the painting and spent a decade studying it, believes his findings answer some of those questions.

Using a high-definition camera and a specialist technique, he discovered hidden marks along that indicate changes da Vinci made to the world-famous artwork.

Da vinci had a time machine and visited the 20th century and made the   'Mona Lisa original'. After that he took the painting and went back to his own time.

He later realised that humanity was not ready for time-travel and has to kept secret so he wiped his tracks to the future.

He changed the Mona Lisa and it became the one we know now ...

Here the original version with a well known stand-in.

Da Vinci “unmasked”... Bad times for Mona Lisa

"Hidden" ?  To me that means 'can not be seen'; what good does hidden dots do if you can not see them? Art mystifies me.  I seen the painting in the Paris museum, didn't notice any dots at all. It did appear very tiny, smaller than my computer screen which is also made up of a lot of dots that I guess I can see. Science and technology mystify me.
