webfact
Chiang Mai: Health authorities tracing all contacts of Indian man with Covid who visited the north Picture: Siam Rath A representative of the Chiang Mai health authorities has explained the movements of the Indian man who tested positive for Covid. All high and low risk contacts of the man are being traced, said Dr Jatuchai Maneerat. There is no sign yet of any outbreak arising from his visit. The man from Krabi, whose infection came to light after he applied for a work permit for a restaurant last week, flew to Chiang Mai on FD 3167 (Air Asia) from Phuket on October 30th with a Thai friend. They took a taxi to Muang district then on the evening of the 31st visited an entertainment venue. They rented a car for a driving trip to Sukhothai then returned to the same hotel. They subsequently were out and about in Muang district of Chiang Mai before returning their hired car at the airport and flying back to Phuket on November 2nd on FD 3168. Close contacts like the taxi driver have been traced along with others who represent a low chance of having contracted the disease. These include 20 staff at the Chiang Mai airport, 13 staff at the hotel in Chiang Mai and four at the car rental agency. In total 39 people had been tested so far. CCTV is being used to determine who should be contacted for testing at the entertainment venue and other places where the man and his friend visited. There have been no reports of the disease having been passed onto anyone in Chiang Mai. webfact
No new Covid-19 cases linked to infected Indian tourist By THE NATION The 39 people in Chiang Mai who were suspected of having close contact with a Covid-19 infected Indian man between October 30 and November 2 have all tested negative, Dr Kittiphan Chalom, Chiang Mai’s assistant public health officer, said on Tuesday. The Public Health Ministry announced on Monday that an Indian national aged 37 years had tested positive for Covid-19 on November 5 while undergoing medical tests for a work permit. The man, who arrived in Thailand three months ago, had travelled to Chiang Mai on October 30, then Sukhothai and Phuket before returning to Krabi on November 4, where he tested positive the following day. He is currently being treated in Krabi Hospital. Some 290 people are suspected of being in close contact with him during the period. “Two people in Chiang Mai were considered to be at high risk of infection, while 37 people are at low risk,” he said. “They were all asked to provide samples on November 9 and their tests came back negative.” Kittiphan further added that three other people who might have close contact with the patient while flying had given their samples today and the test results should come out soon. “The patient also visited an entertainment venue in Chiang Mai on October 30, where the CCTV footage showed him being in close contact with one person. We are tracking them down and will bring them in for testing,” he said. Meanwhile, Chiang Mai’s deputy governor Ratthaphol Naradisorn is calling on people to strictly follow the guidelines set by Public Health Ministry. “Remember to check-in using the Thai Chana app every time you enter a crowded venue. Wear a face mask every time you go out and wash your hands regularly,” he said. “Business owners must also be strict in screening people and enforcing the Thai Chana check-in system, which will help trace people once an infection is found.” Source: https://www.nationthailand.com/news/30397682 -- © Copyright The Nation Thailand 2020-11-10 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

Pottinger
It's astonishing that, in a country that can be the acme of incompetence in certain areas (notably traffic enforcement), Thailand can be so efficient in suppression of COVID. It does make one wonder. 1

Acknowledging that he, having been in Thailand for 3 months, caught it somewhere in Thailand, and that somewhere could quite easily have been Chiang Mai, would be "getting real". Give it a try. khunjeff
From everything else that's been written, he is not a tourist, and he arrived nine months ago, not three. Other than that, totally accurate ????
daveAustin
Deary me! All this energy on tracking a guy that might have COVID! Know what, Thailand had thousands of people with it initially and everyone will have it sooner or later in any case. Problem is for these places when it's all been done and dusted, the little places (NZ/OZ/Thai etc) - lest they get rescued by the big boys with vaccines - are going to be ill-equipped when it comes around proper and will suffer.
