TOT to launch 5G in EEC to support investment

 

   

BANGKOK (NNT) - To attract more foreign investors to invest in the Eastern Economic Corridor’s (EEC) telecommunications and digital infrastructure, which will reduce cost and enhance competitiveness, TOT Public Company will provide 5th generation mobile network (5G) technology to Rayong province in the first phase.

 

The company has signed an agreement with the EEC Policy Committee to provide full-scale 5G coverage to industrial operators and entrepreneurs. The move will enable the public and private sectors to optimize their investment resources, and it will not create a business monopoly.

 

In the first phase, the 5G technology will be used to support business development in Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate and Banchang Smart City of Rayong province. The system will be set up within three months, before it is expanded to other locations of the EEC and across the country.

 

The Digital Economy and Society Minister, Buddhipongse Punnakanta, said today that this cooperation is an important step for high-speed data communication system development in the EEC. Many countries are interested in investing in the EEC, as they want to capitalize on the competitive edge of Thailand, which is one of the first countries to use 5G in this region, especially after the COVID-19 situation. Many countries have also recognized Thailand’s successful anti-COVID-19 efforts to date.
