rooster59
Ministry cracks down on online gambling, arrests 140 people running websites By THE NATION The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society has shut down 1,457 URLs of websites suspected of running online gambling, and arrested 140 offenders involved in those websites, with estimated rotating money of more than Bt21.7 billion, minister Buddhipongse Punnakanta said. “In the past three months [July-October], the ministry has been working with the Royal Thai Police’s Technology Crime Suppression Division to find online gambling websites and shutting access to them, in an effort to solve the problem of online gambling in Thailand, in keeping with Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha’s policy,” he said. Online gambling is an offence under Article 4 of the 1935 Gambling Act, while those who invite others to place bets are guilty of violating both the Gambling Act and the Computer Crimes Act. “We have arrested 140 offenders and charged them with several offences, including running a gambling operation, money laundering, and committing computer crimes,” Buddhipongse added. “People are encouraged to send screenshots or the URL of online gambling ads or websites to the DESMonitor Facebook page. Officials will submit this as evidence to police for investigation, and the ministry will close the website after receiving police approval,” he said. poyai111
When the buffoons recognize that gambling can be the source of billions of baht in taxes, the attraction of the trough will become irresistible. Gambling will be legalized and administered by the usual suspects who will be enriched overnight

Gambling will be legalized and administered by the usual suspects who will be enriched overnight Yeah there is a lot of money that could be made from taxes if the Thai government started an organization that had various gambling activities. We're about 5,6 million Danes and gambled for 5 billion dk, which is about 25 billion baht last year, so just imagine how much Thailand would spend each year. That was just what we spent at the national owned gambling site, which also offer lottery, bookie and scratch cards at kiosks, supermarkets etc. Online there is also poker, slots, roulette etc We are allowed to play at other bookies as well if they are licensed, but no idea how much we spend there yearly. A lot of the money goes back to tax, but about 1,2 billion baht goes back to support the local sports across Denmark, so many small soccer clubs and such benefit from it. Plus gambling create quite a few jobs across the country. I know certain countries don't like gambling due to different culture and rules but imo it's better to have a government controlled gambling option, compared to shady websites. As long as it's illegal people will just find other ways, while the government don't get a share of that money. Just make sure the tax money from gambling goes into improving things needed in the society. Roads, hospitals, Healthcare and such. If gambling was not allowed here I would find sports to be more boring to watch and I wouldn't have my weekly dream about how I would spend all that lottery money ???? If I win the Danish or EU lottery, Thailand would be the first country to benefit from it ????

What makes you think these are better at business than Russians, Ukrainians, Koreans or US internet spooks and propaganda spinners ? Because most of the people arrested over the last year running these and similar things have been Chinese is why ! Chinese and Asians are some of the most chronic gamblers in the world . The complexes the Chinese are building in Vietnam have everything so they never need to go outside and this includes casinos . It is one of the reasons the government and locals seemingly hate them now as all the money stays within the Chinese community or is sent back to China so Vietnam hardly gets any of it . They thought it was good business and the country would make a lot of money when they let Chinese start building despite difficult laws etc and now they realise they made a mistake by letting them build private complexes with casinos . Expect Thailand to be moaning in 5-10 years once they make the same mistake ! 1

overherebc
Biggest problem is kids getting into online gambling and getting addicted from an early age. Yes, parents should control access to it but for sure most parents have no idea what their kids are doing online.

Think driver said the condos in da nang started around 50,000 gbp but some of the villas in there own complex just across from the entertainment complex started at 1.5 m gbp . They had also bought some local hotels and not unusual at times to pass and see 10-15 tour buses full of Chinese going to the buffet in the same place daily. Just by luck the hotel I booked in hoi Ann did not allow Chinese guests ???? . I think the owner was Asian and made it a policy no Chinese allowed the staff told me .
