New passport and transfer of marriage extension

Featured Replies

Last time I got a new passport I had a non o multiple entry visa, and immigration did their thing transferring everything at the airport.  Now I'm on a 1 year marriage extension do I need to go to my local office that gave me the extension "Jomtien " to transfer it or wait until I leave the country the next time. No plans on leaving anytime soon.

Thanks

You should have received a letter from your Embassy along with your new Passport that requests Thai Immigration to 'transfer' your current permission of stay stamps over into your new passport.

While there isn't any real issue of delaying or waiting, it's best to take the passports (old and new) and the letter and let your local immigration office place the stamps in the new passport and update their records.

Afterward you'll also want to update any 3rd Party tied the the previous passport of the new passport number if it changed when renewed (such as banks and phone provider) as some require presenting the passport of record when requesting account access or making account changes.

Yes, don't overlook RichCor's advice of notifying your bank and phone provider about your new passport number. It won't cause you any problems until you want to update or change something, and then it can turn into a real hassle.

Do you need to go to the branch where you opened your bank account or will another branch suffice?

I don't know the answer to this question, but I think you only need to go to a branch.

When I first came to Thailand, almost 20 years ago now, I opened an account with Bangkok Bank in Bangkok. I was on holiday in Koh Samui when my ATM card wouldn't work. I went to a Bangkok Bank branch in Koh Samui and asked for a new ATM card. They told me they couldn't issue me one, and I'd have to return to Bangkok to do that. ???? So, I then asked to withdraw all my money from my account, about 4 million baht. They ran around for a while, but eventually give me the money in cash. I thought at worst they'd just say they'd open a new account for me there in Koh Samui, transfer all my money, and then issue me a new ATM card - but they didn't think of that. ????

So, I took all that money right across the street (very quickly) and deposited in in an Ayudhya Bank there. ????Although I have since moved to Phetchabun, I still bank at Ayudhya Bank.

So, first try your local branch. I think by now, things have loosened up a bit, even in the banking industry. ????

This previous thread may be of some help (or not, as the thread explains)...

I originally opened my account head office Sukhumvit. When I renewed my passport my local branch made me go to where I opened a/c.

BTW. When I went to CW to transfer visa information and reentry permit they would not transfer reentry permit as I obtained it at Don Mueang.  I had to have it done there. Rather that stuff around I travelled with both passports. No issue

Why would you transfer a multi O visa based on being married?

You just carry the old passport with your new passport and the multi O remains valid until  its use by date in the old passport.

He is not on a ME marriage visa. Have another read of OP.

He is currently on annual extension based on marriage. He should have the required info transferred to his new pp.
