60 day tourist visa extensions - what's the latest?

Featured Replies

Lot's of confusion as usual as it approaches Nov 30.  I arrived on a tourist visa, I got me extension to Oct 26 then went back for a new stamp which is for Nov 30.

As I understood it we can apply for at least two 60 extensions so I should be able to visit immigration and get a stamp for Jan 30.

But reading here it seems some people not having a lot of luck here.

Does anyone know the latest on this?

I'm on UK passport and I'm in Chiang Mai.

CM is being a cow re issue of the 60 day extension. There are threads (currently) of reports that CM off the charts.

What is the official position? And what other options are there?

I think the official position is that there is none.

I recall our man Ubonjoe stating that there has been no official announcement re these "60 day extensions".

At present some offices are providing them.

MTT, and I think Phuket and report from Sisaket?

Some folk have started threads to obtain list of offices.

It's a balls up as usual.

You asked for other options. If you entered on tourist visa or visa exempt you could use agent to obtain non o and subsequent 12 month extension eg volunteering. However that's not cheap.

If 50+ agent for retirement. Cheaper.

I emailed the British embassy to request an embassy letter (I already have one dated in September). I just thought it might persuade CM immigration to honour the 60 extension that we supposedly can get.

This was in the auto reply:

Visa Extension Letters

The British Embassy no longer issues visa extension letters.

On Monday 2nd November 2020, the British Embassy Bangkok received verbal confirmation from Thai Immigration Bureau that Embassy letters are not required to extend visas within Thailand.

Instead, you can complete an affidavit at your local Immigration Office.

I'm pretty sure somebody already posted this so apologies for repeating.

With that in mind, should I try CM immigration first or just skip and plan a short to to MTT? Or are there any other IOs closer to me?

You could try CM Monday however reports are that CM is not offering the 60 day extension.

That link is affidavit MTT is providing.

Perhaps show it to CM. Mind you don't think it would help. BTW it's double sided you sign on back page.

Is there any thing else on the back of the affidavit form other than signature field.

Did you need embassy letter?

Did you ask if you can extend again in 30 days?

Thanks for the info. I have embassy letter but it's from September. And I need more than 30 days, or 30 days plus the options of another 30 next month.
