snoop1130
City people escape to the simple life in Loei’s Chiang Khan this weekend By THE NATION Loei province’s Chiang Khan district appeared to be the most popular destination during the November 19-22 long weekend, as thousands flocked to this small town to enjoy its old-world charm. The town is known for its simple wooden houses, many of which have been turned into guest houses, cafes or souvenir shops. Apart from its natural surroundings, Chiang Khan is also known for its glass skywalk, which had its soft opening in July and will be officially opened next month. Chiang Khan is also near Pak Chom district, where the beauty of the Phu Lam Duan mountain can be admired. Hotels in the town were fully booked, and local traders said their business was 50 per cent better than in normal periods. However, the district’s public transport system was unable to deal with the crowds, causing problems for people who did not have their own cars. Thanks for that. Looks like it is worth a vist. Mind you, not easy to get to from Koh Samui. Also, being a Brit, but living in Thailand for over 20 years, the cooler months do not really appeal to me. February OK?

Yer Feb is fine---but really its not Brit weather.....just a little parkie in the early morning. Most of the hotels have free push bikes , take them and ride along the Mekong to the next spot, for lunch, the markets and the early morning walk by the Monks, all the buildings old wood, most hotels back onto the Mekong......I haven't been there since the new walk-way was built. The market great, all silk stuff from across the river (Lao's) well priced. Your driving up then?...you know there is no airport, its a step back in time to old Thai. No cars allowed in the main street, use the bike--If your driving make your last stop in Nong Kai....nice border town on Mekong, pity the border is closed the girls can just walk across and bring back the french wines etc. if your flying probably get the best flight deal into Udon Thani ---get a rent a car from there. .
hotchilli
Think I'll wait for Bangkokians to return to the city then take a leisurely look around without the crowds.

No girlie bars in Loei, Phu Bo Bid has a great view of the city but many beautiful places to see in the province: Phu Kradeung, Phu Rua, Phu Lam Duan, Chiang Khan, naming just a few Edited November 23, 2020 by peleid
