BANGKOK (NNT) - Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has acknowledged the improved Thai economic figures, urging the relevant agencies to maintain economic stimulus measures to help people and businesses.

Government Spokesperson Anucha Burapachaisri disclosed today that Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha had acknowledged a report on the situation of the Thai economy submitted by the Office of the National Economics and Social Development Council (NESDC). In the third quarter of 2020, the Thai economy declined by 6.4 percent, improving from a 12.1-percent contraction in the second quarter. The improvement in the Thai economy resulted from a recovery in economic activity due to the easing of shutdown measures and restrictions on domestic travel.

As for the Thai economic in 2020, it is projected to have decreased by 6 percent. The Thai economy in 2021 is expected to expand within the range of 3.5 – 4.5 percent. The growth will be mainly supported by an improvement in domestic demand, the recovery of the world economy and global trade and the government budget’s disbursement and economic stimulus measures.

There are also limitations and risks that could affect the economic recovery in 2021 namely uncertainty about the COVID-19 epidemic situation in many countries which will affect economic recovery, global trade volume and the tourism sector, employment conditions, financial status of the household and business sectors, risks from the drought situation, volatility of the global economic and financial systems and concerns about the domestic political situation.

Mr Anucha said although the economic figures suggest that Thailand has an improved economic outlook, the Prime Minister has urged relevant government agencies to implement measures quickly and continuously in order to help raise people’s purchasing power, stimulate spending, promote employment and tourism, help debtors especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and accelerate implementation of measures to support and promote small and medium-sized enterprises to allow them to enter the public sector’s procurement process quickly.

Be interesting to see how they do that and from where they get the money from.

A better economy will make Thais less restless.  He is hoping the parents will feel like reigning in their politically aware children.  if the inbred elite wants to hold on to power, they may want to give some of it up.   That will never happen.

I find the original title of this post ironic to say the least ????

Getting the baht to the correct level would solve most Thais problems without the need for stimulus packages.
