Concern over child murder cases

Featured Replies

The rise of child murder cases in Cambodia is causing concern among child protection group after two one-year-old children were killed within one week of each other by their own relatives. On Tuesday afternoon, a one-year old girl was killed by her father after he had an argument with his wife in Takhmao city, Kandal province. The victim’s mother left the house after the argument and left the daughter alone with the father. He killed his own daughter using a pair of scissors.

The child’s uncle who witnessed the incident, grabbing her from her father and brought the girl to hospital. However, she was pronounced dead upon arrival. Neighbours took the father, who suffered self-inflected minor injuries, to the hospital.

Child Protection Unit (CPU), a non-governmental organisation which worked on the investigation together with the local police condemned the incident. “The death of any child is devastating but for it to be committed by a parent is incomprehensible. RIP angel, you did not deserve this,” CPU said in its Facebook page.
