webfact
Lumpini Park to get a major facelift before its 100th birthday By The Nation Bangkok’s Lumpini Park is undergoing a major facelift for its 100th birthday in 2025, with the first phase of the renovation scheduled to be completed next year. Governor Asawin Kwanmuang said on Thursday that Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has come up with a plan to renovate Lumpini Park. The facelift will be divided into three phases. The first is to improve all infrastructure and utilities such as pipelines and underground drainage in the park by 2021. This phase will also include a renovation of the lighting system, footpaths and buildings. Phase 2 will cover the creation of different learning areas, while Phase 3 will include the development unused areas. Famous landscape architect Kotchakorn Voraakhom is working on the concept and design of the park, which will be implemented once the opinions of those who use the service and the nearby private sector is collected. BMA said it wants every sector to have a hand in the improvement of the park. “Lumpini Park has not been renovated for decades, and now there are up to 10,000 people using the park daily and some 15,000 on the weekends. Plus, many important events are held at the park, such as Red Cross fairs, walking and running events as well as various club gatherings. Several areas in the park have fallen into disrepair, while many areas have been left undeveloped,” Asawin added. shady86
Limiting parking time by introducing parking tickets would be good. Its almost impossible to get a parking spot on weekdays because office workers nearby taking advantage of the free parking!
brewsterbudgen
The 'swan' pedalo boats (pictured) have disappeared from the lake. Hopefully they're just being upgraded.
ExpatOilWorker
Great relaxing park, especially in the morning. Could be great for a game of chess, but never see anybody play there.
JusticeGB
All those disgusting trees which he seems to dislike will be pruned so much they will die. Perhaps about a dozen 7/11s would help improve the park because it wouldn't be too far for people to walk to buy food to litter the park!
