BANGKOK (NNT) - The Ministries of Commerce and Education have teamed up in a campaign to provide necessary skills for the younger generation to start their own businesses after graduation, in a bid to reduce unemployment.

This new campaign is a joint initiative between the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) and the Ministry of Education, teaching CEO skills to youth in Generation Z.

The campaign targets 10,500 students from 13 universities, including Chulalongkorn University, Mahidol University, Suranaree University of Technology, and Suratthani Rajabhat University. Participating students will get a chance to attend sessions hosted by business experts, with special focus on increasing value in export products.

Campaign sessions commenced with the Upskill Business Matching Online English course, and will be followed by 18-hours of online training on export product branding, provided by True Corporation.

Participants will get to learn more about business opportunities on foreign e-commerce platforms, such as Alibaba, as well as basic knowledge on international goods shipping. This training will be held until September next year.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Jurin Laksanawisit said Thailand is experiencing economic shortcomings caused by COVID-19, despite the country’s successful disease control measures.

He said businesses must adjust by adopting a hybrid approach, exploiting both offline and online channels, while pointing out that new trade agreements have all mentioned e-commerce as a condition for international trade.

This Gen-Z CEOs campaign is expected to offer business opportunities for younger people who are about to graduate, and some 12 million people, aged from 15 to 23, accounting for about 19 percent of the Thai population. The Ministry of Commerce has set a target to train 12,000 people in this campaign.

Just scratching at the surface again.
