Security officials predict prolonged protests

Thailand’s national security agencies have expressed concern that the current political conflict will continue for a long time and will seriously impact the nation’s already depressed economy, especially the blocking of roads in commercial areas by protesters, which are causing hardship to the general public, said Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, secretary to the Office of the Prime Minister, today.

While assuring that the military will not stage a coup to end the conflict, he reminded the anti-establishment protesters to be aware of the hardships being caused to others and urged them to comply with the law.

There are several important events in Thailand in December, such as December 2nd, when the Constitutional Court is due to decide Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha’s fate over his allegedly illegal stay at the army chief’s official residence, and Constitution Day on December 10th, and Thanakorn said that security officials are concerned that the protesters may escalate their protests on those days.

I guess a story was needed to be broadcast about how the protests are not going away.  Well Duh, no sheets Sherlock.

Let's see what happens on Wednesday when the verdict comes in on Prayut.  Will he flee the country on Tuesday night or will he be smiling with that smug smile of his knowing the fix was always in. Can not be charged based on his law absolved him and his cronies.  One can always hope that it slams him good

Meanwhile, the protesters are expressing concern that the unelected PM will continue for a long time, and will seriously impact the chances of Thailand escaping from a military government, hence their actions !

Half a year later...

Looking at pictures on Twitter of the army putting up barricades around their army bases with shipping containers and barbed wire. Funny, I always thought an army existed to protect its citizens. Looking a the pictures online you’d think the army is going to war with  theirs.

Not really surprising when the small % of people who run the country and bang on ad nauseam about patriotism and people not being ‘Thai’, are the very ones who don’t treat Thailand like a country but as a business.

I think they just realize that the clowns running the show are too stubborn to get the message and get lost! They have wealth to  protect!

That some kind of joke?

Remember only 6 years ago a certain General said there will be no coup.

Sad thing is the bunch of geriatric generals are only interested in what they can get for themselves, dont give a rats a++e about the country or the people, unless of course the people are multi billionaires.

He would be better to start looking inwards toward his own bosses to find the cause of the hardships being caused to others.

The only people that the Thai army has fought in living memory is its own people, apart for a little skirmish on the border with Cambodia over which country owned a temple. Certainly the country has no enemies, because no other country has the slightest interest in Thailand.

The sole purpose of the RTA is to protect the wealthy from the peasants!

Didn,t appear that the thai army put up much resistance when japan occupied it in ww 2.

But they sure need to buy those Submarines now, as well as the new Stryker Armored vehicles.  Must be expecting WW-III, but then that will be a very quick war with many millions vaporized.  Unsure why the good General believes he needs such toys instead of caring for his people.  They will never stop any military at their borders, whomever it is that once to roll on in either by land or by flotilla.

I can remember that they fought the communists in Laos in the Vietnam war. and I think also fought in Vietnam itself.

Looks like they are about to fight a battalion of yellow inflatable ducks. Who knows what that is all about?

Not quite an accurate statement BB. You might want to brush up on your history Mate.

I'd like to see the protestors asking the question why Thailand needs 1700 flag rank officers, when the USA makes do with 232 and a military twice the size of Thailand.

Yeah, it's absolutely ridiculous.. It's even funnier though that they ended up (once again) barricading the wrong place. And surely some dimwits are going to be butt hurt again because the people didn't ask for a permit to change the venue 24 hours prior.

From 500 to 550?

Crack some skulls.

Traubert i think your confused. There are tens of thousands of protestors not 500 or 550.  Why do you downplay the size all the time.  Is it because China won't allow protestors?
