Maximum Law Enforcement for Illegal Returnees

BANGKOK, Dec 1 (TNA) – Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has ordered relevant officials to take full legal action against the illegal returnees who carried the novel coronavirus and dodged immigration and quarantine procedures, saying they caused damage to the nation.

Mr Anutin’s order responded to a group of Thai women who sneaked back from Myanmar’s border town of Tachileik into Chiang Rai province and later tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019.

“That should not have happened. The selfishness of a few people troubles many other Thai people. Although immigration is being restricted, the group of people sneaked through the border at will. They violated laws,” Mr Anutin said.

Q: what is 'damage to the nation ?

A: same as 'national security'; anything they want it to be

"We are about to reopen the country but now measures must be reviewed"

Seems like an overreaction. Perhaps use this as an excuse to keep the doors closed?

He is completely right. Some idiots believe that they don't have to follow laws and regulations and now the should feel that they are idiots.

Why should he want to keep the doors closed? He simply does his job to protect the population of Thailand. I really think he does a great job. And for sure he doesn't have only friends because his decisions might cost some people a lot of money.

It means they can order a lot more Submarines and Tanks !

Must be very embarrassing for Anutin to know it was Thais to blame he should now cover up that face before he loses anymore ????????

Thailand has many good laws. Sadly they are useless if they are not enforced or even used to make money if not enforced.

The lady that has been found with Covid, didn't she pay to be allowed entry ?.

What of those corrupt immi officers.

I believe her and friends just short cut through the bushes, not through a border control point.

They are Thais <cue Chart Thai>  It's not like dirty foreigners are crossing illegally.  It's kon Thai crossing back into the caress of Mother Thailand bosom.
No doubt they'll be given a lecture and made to apologize and promise to never do it again.

Be interesting to see if the fine is less than the cost of quarantine.

I wonder if it's as damaging as corruption?

Nah,

300 baht, with new Covid 19,    hardship discount. maybe a double Wai is in order

Sneaking across the border without quarantining needs to become very risky and dangerous for the ones who plan to do this .

If caught , their faces and names should be published .

These people are putting in danger the whole of the thai population .

Anutin is right for imposing ' maximum law enforcement ' in this case .

Get the soldiers back from Bangkok , that is more dangerous than the student demonstrations ...

"Maximum Law Enforcement", from the Minister of Health no less.

At this point Law Enforcement Lite would be a step up.

Yes he is but  not many Thais follow  the other laws so why does he think they will follow this one.

Lets go 50/50 half share if they admit guilt.

Might backfire because those illegal reenterers would  keep quiet now about their infection

Exactly. It won't stop people from crossing illegally, it will just discourage them from getting testing and treatment when they get sick.

" caused damage to the nation."

Look to yourself Anutin before you make statements such as this.

Good point.

I suspect that many more Burmese than Thais are entering illegally.   Checking passports of Burmese workers would be a good idea.  With so many Thais out of work who needs illegals just so the boss can pay lower wages?

Can he not afford a mask ?
