A seminar held at the D Varee Jomtien Beach Pattaya on Thursday heard about ongoing plans for the erosion of Jomtien beach to be addressed.

The harbor department has employed Italian Thai Development to repair and develop the beach.

The budget is 586,047,000 baht.

Work began on November 30th and will continue for 900 days until mid November 2022.

Sand is being brought in from Koh Rang Kawian - the same used for the widening of Pattaya beach.

Some 640,000 cubic meters of sand will be required in Phase One.

The seminar was entitled: Harbor department - a new way of tourism, beach that will last.

There was also a logo on a stage backdrop that referred to "Jomtien Beach Nourishment".

Will they include bbqs to catch and cook endangered species?

No mention of how the erosion of the existing  beach will be arrested to prevent erosion of the imported sand.

All that money....

Where were they a couple of months ago when so many people were lining up desperate for food and shelter?

So much money to be stolen sorry made from annually putting sand on beaches only to be washed away with the next storm. Here is an idea why not spend money on preventing it from being washed away...

Who are this morons that make this type of decisions? Did't they learned the lesson at Pattaya beach, that man can never defeat nature (Beach is going back to the sea). Take care of the Thai people and small business owners and give them a chance to survive instead , There won't be any people on the beach regardless. Just have a look att Pattaya beach, always empty, with the exception of some crazy events per year. But to take suggested approach need some balls or it will cause other issues...

Great another fenced of beach for 3 years and by that time they will begin renovate that beach-road and after that fixing cracked pavements and or planting new trees all ready in 2027 ????

They have already recycled the superbly useless lifeguard lookout platforms scam. Last time - years ago - they were all metal and too hot to use, and slowly corroded on the sand, before they were removed. This time, they're made of wood I think, but I've still not seen them properly used yet. Here's hoping....

Additional phases will follow after every big rain...

Be interesting to know how much gets spent on the beach project! ????

Jomtien beach is a joke 30 feet of sand in some areas before you hit water.

So, why all the negativity?

Pattaya beach is greatly enhanced with the improvements.  There was some erosion with the rain but the overall quality of the improvements remain intact.

Anyone in Jomtien should be happy as it will enhance the entire popular part of the beach and possibly improve the depressed depreciating property values and rents there.

If I lived in Jomtien I would be happy about this project.

Laughing all the way to the bank!

Beware, if they push the sea back 50 feet they might be able to get another row of beach front tower blocks all the way along Beach Rd... might spoil many a view.

There won't be any erosion arresting plan, it will be in the budget for the multiple repairs that will follow.

Sure , that's the plan. They have their (permanent) construction trailers community environment established on beach around soi13 now. I'll take the beach photo in the OP to what is going to have to be put up with around here for years.

They should start by cleaning the Promenade which is FILTHY!

Well, at least they are going to make more beach for the homeless to sleep on.

This is their advanced beach digging equipment....

bkk6060 has it.  They are trying to make the beach good. It has lasted in Pattaya barring a few hicups but hey they are trying.  Don't knock it too early guys.

The horse bolted some seasons ago.  All too little, too late.  Once you have lost a customer (tourist) very difficult to get them back.

Then, you have other issues like the strong baht, visas etc.

It's not knocking too early.  The writing has been on the wall for years here.

So I guess it's foolish to cut the grass and trim the trees.  'Cause you're just going to have to do it again next week.

It's called routine maintenance and it's practiced all over the world where cities depend on having beaches to draw in tourist $$$.  And when the beaches wash away, they bring in more sand.  Because they've figured out that stopping the erosion is either impossible, or much more expensive than hauling in sand occasionally.
