Amazing Thailand video: Drug crazed construction worker steals backhoe then attacks police pick-up!

Nong Seau police in Pathum Thani north of Bangkok were called after a construction worker stole a backhoe and smashed up a motorcycle belonging to a contractor.

Rungniran Songsan, 42, then took off on the rampage driving the backhoe along a rural road.

Police put a pick-up in his way but that didn't matter. Rungniran swept the pick-up aside and deposited it in a canal on the way to Klong 10.

Police were now concerned that he was heading for a busy Sunday evening market 400 meters away.

They took the decision to open fire and shoot out the backhoe's engine.

Rungniran was taken to the police station where he tested positive for drugs.

He has so far been charged with theft and criminal damage.

The police said that footage taken of the incident would be useful in the prosecution.

That Backhoe looks more like an Excavator to me.

He was lucky they shot at the machine and not him, as he could have just as easily killed someone, that's what drugs dose for ya...

Why call it a back hoe?  It looks like a 20 tonne tracked excavator to me.

Not much of a driver, only did half a job of the police pickup, a proper driver would have wrecked the pickup.:cheesy:

Putting a pick up truck in front of an excavator is not going to work !

a bullet in the head would have worked ,before he did more damage

and could have killed people... but all's well that ends well ????

Also known as backhoe, back actor, excavator.

From wikipedia ''The term "backhoe" refers to the action of the bucket, not its location on the vehicle.[2] That is, a backhoe digs by drawing earth backwards, rather than lifting it with a forward motion like a person''

For years, my wife has referred to them as a "makro" and I can't convince her otherwise.

Shot out the engine to try to stop him, should have popped a couple trough the door and saved the expense of repairing the backhoe.

Mine says "lollycumber" for a helicopter...

This in essence is the difference between East and West.  In the West, he would have been shot dead within two minutes and 50 rounds would have been fired.

Please dont confuse the west with America.

With all the differing comments about "back hoes" - how about this:-

Those things operate on a hand throttle.

If they had shot the driver the machine could have just carried on till the diesel ran out   :post-4641-1156693976:

Well your Honor it couldnt have been my client as he was operating an Excavator and NOT a Backhoe.

Not really, throttle is automatic depending on load once the deadman is put down.  Two joystick like hand controls, the left operating the slew(rotation) and boom (up and down) with the right controlling the stick and bucket curl (both in and out).  There are also two pedals on the floor that also have tall hand levers attached to them to control the tracks forward and backward.  If they had shot him, there is a slight chance that he could slump on one of the controls but the movement of the machine would most probably move him off quickly enough?

That's ''scupid'' as my wife would say.

As kids in the UK we used to call them a "digger"

Yup, a digger is what we called them too , or the generic term JCB if you wanted to appear smart. ????

Lots of 'diggers' as well.

The end of the video shows a bullet hole in the cab's lower window, which is probably what made the driver decide to stop.  I'm thinking the "shooting out the engine" is a bit of embellishment by the cops or press.

JCB Is a brand name not a generic term.

But then some call a vacuum cleaner a Hoover..... Go figure !!

JCB is a brand name I admit but it is used as a generic term for an excavator, a backhoe, in fact any heavy earth moving machinery, but I was talking about when we were kids !!

Guilty as charged with Hoover though , used it as a noun and a verb !!

” pass me the Hoover and I’ll do the hoovering “
