A case that illustrates the seedy underbelly of life in Pattaya has been described to the Thai press.

It concerns the death of a motorcycle taxi rider called Prathum Sa-aatnak, 47, who was shot dead near Muang School in Pattaya 8 on July 28th of this year.

Pattaya police soon arrested Manat, 39, the shooter and Niphon, 47, the driver of the motorcycle the pair used when shooting the victim.

Both claimed that they had a personal problem with Prathum but relatives of the victim thought this was nonsense and appealed to RTP chief Gen Suwat Chaengyodsuk.

The relatives were convinced the matter concerned influential people in illegal gambling circles behind the scenes.

General Suwat called in the CSD, Crime Suppression Division.

On Wednesday morning this led to the arrest of two men called Suphan and Thaworn, both aged 53. They were both arrested on warrants for arranging the murder of another person.

Suphan was arrested in Moo 5 Bang Lamung and Thaworn outside the Michael Inn in Moo 9.

Thai Rath reported that Suphan and Thaworn were "fixers" for investors in an illegal casino operation.

Victim Prathum had secretly taken pictures of the casino and an argument had developed about this. When the news reached the ears of the investors they allegedly ordered the fixers to have Prathum shot.

A fee of 200,000 baht was paid to the two hitmen to shoot Prathum, it has been alleged.

And what will happen with the investors? Where is the casino and what happened with it?
