GLO rubbishes rumours of winning numbers being leaked to its staff

The Digital Economy and Society Ministry has warned people not to believe or share news or Internet posts accusing the Government Lottery Office (GLO) of leaking lottery winning numbers to its staff before the draw date, and of the staff passing on those numbers to others for a price.

“The ministry’s Anti-Fake News Centre contacted the GLO and was told that the rumour was false,” it said. “The GLO confirmed that its lottery draw procedure strictly conformed to the ISO 9001:2015 standard, and all steps were transparent and verifiable. There is absolutely no one who can know the winning numbers before the draw date.”

The GLO also added that such rumours could harm its reputation, and that it was gathering evidence to file a complaint against the individuals starting and spreading the rumour.

For enquiries about the government’s lottery, contact GLO on tel 02-528-9999. To report fake news, do so via website www.antifakenewscenter.com.

So is this the number we phone to get numbers in advance? Anyone know how much?

How can I hack into their phone system to know the numbers?

I thought the draw was/is live on TV? Just put some screens in the room which shows different TV stations broadcasting at that time and the people can verify that it is live indeed.

Is that the place where an 80 baht ticket costs 120 baht or more, and people queue up to buy them?

Imagine being given the winning ticket numbers and then trying to chase down every bike peddling , board walking ticket vendor.

Thailand claims to be a great hub of invention - but cannot handle a digital lottery like the rest of the civilised world - that said I guess unemployment would rise 10% if the ticket salesmen lost their work  !

When the RTA gets 275000 free tickets each draw, why bother with this nonsense?

Is the lottery legit?.....Can pigs actually fly?

Who would pay 120 No way

The Thai lottery is simply a tax on the stupid.

Vendors typically charge 10% on top of the 100thb ticket price so if you are buying 5 at 100thb per ticket they will charge you an additional 10% so 550thb.

The Thai logic being if you win you will win more with more tickets or so I was told by a local vendor here in Chonburi.

Nor is holding ISO certification any guarantee against corruption or cheating.

Nor does ISO 9001 have anything to do with lottery drawing procedures, if indeed a Standard for this process actually exists, which I doubt.

This merely demonstrates these morons do not have a clue what they are talking about. Just more buffoonery.

"Oh, we are ISO 9001 certified so this cannot happen!"

GLO...an honest institution? How rare that is in Thailand.

What is the RTA? Royal Thai Army?

Didn't our revered PM declare six years ago that he would end the sale of tickets over 80Baht?

What did he say where the complaints come from. Did he explain each complaint.

That is not "Thai logic".  Multiple tickets of the same winning numbers mean multiple payouts, i.e if you buy 10 tickets with the same winning number your prize is multiplied by a factor of ten.

Isn't that what I explained?

They charge more for purchases of multiple tickets because you may win more. Thai logic.

Apparently they do. My GF went there earlier this year but refused to pay that price. Mate of mine told me the same.

He did although I dont remember exactly when. Some vendors complied for a while but its been a long time since I have seen an 80 baht ticket for purchase. 100 baht seems the norm around Pattaya although I rarely buy one. Another directive that is soon ignored.

Oh but they did decide to introduce a digital lottery. I contract was signed with a company who imported the machines to be installed at retail points but then the money-making VIPs operating the current lottery got the whole thing cancelled. All this was in years gone by.

Transparent and verifiable is not possible here????

Thailand wishes to be thought of as a digital hub of technology yet still prints out paper tickets!  These papers can be subject to abuse.

Could never happen here...

And if your number doesn't come up, you LOSE ten times as much.

Not sure of the 2015 bit, but if memory serves me right ISO 9001 requires you to comply to the letter of the written procedures that are in place, and if one procedure tells you to inform "X" that a specific number will be drawn, you must do so, even if later that is proven to be illegal, you have still met the ISO 9001 standard, and it runs the risk of failing standards not to to inform "X".
