Hey guys

Not sure how I've managed to get this all so screwed up but:

Trying to get the 1 year multi entry marriage visa for first time

Got married in the UK, marriage certificate is in English and from UK

Tried using Visa service - all ok (400K in bank etc), but need marriage certificate translated and verified by UK embassy, advised to get Kor 22

Been informed it has to be verified by UK embassy intially but then found out UK embassy in Bangkok no longer verifies marriage certificates

Informed there was online service and just had to send back to UK, did that, went to Chaeng Watthana to register as advised by Visa service, get told that marriage certificate needs to be verified by Thai Embassy in UK first ????

This doesn't make any sense as previously people only had to get their marriage certificate verfied by UK embassy and then translated to get marriage visa, how come suddenly there are so many more steps???

If anyone has any knowledge of what to actually I'd be grateful.

Thanks

The UK embassy stopped doing the certification about 5 years ago.

The Thai Embassy in London legitimization step is mentioned in this document from UK embassy website.

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/714089/Legalisation_info_June_2018.pdf

After all of the that is done it has to be translated to Thai and certified by the Department of Consular Affairs of the MFA in Bangkok.

After getting everything done you have to register your foreign marriage at an Amphoe to get a Kor Ror 22.

But do I need a Kor Ror 22 for a marriage visa? Did people previously need to verify with the thai uk embassy before applying for a marriage visa?

Immigration has required Kor Ror 22 foreign marriage registry for several years now after the registration is done at an Amphoe to apply for a extension of stay (it not a visa) based upon marriage.

The verification is required by a Amphoe not immigration.

Immigration want a foreign marriage certificate legitimized for other types of extensions that require proof of marriage. Same for foreign birth certificates.

You keep talking of a marriage visa, the assumption in replies is that you probably mean an extension of stay not a visa, it could change some answers depending on what exactly is needed (but the process in the UK then at the MoFA will be required as it has for some time)

It sounds as though you want to apply for a 1 year extension of your current permission of stay based on marriage to a Thai at your local Immigration office.

...

Thanks for this.

It is the most clear explanation I have come across of the steps you need to take to get your UK marriage recognized by Thai authorities allowing you then to apply for the needed Kor Ror 22 to apply for any extension 'for reason of marriage to a Thai national'.

You cannot get married twice.

Unless you get divorced first.

He could, but would be committing 'perjury' by lying on his affidavit.

Who would be any the wiser though and who would prosecute for perjury for remarrying the same woman.
