I will be applying for a non imm B visa at a UK consulate soon. 3 years ago it was very simple to get one, but I haven't had the need to apply for one since. Just thought it might be a good idea to ask here first if anything has changed over the last 3 years before I apply.

Hull and Birmingham are said to be ok. Not quite as simple as it was 3 years ago, but no problem if you can supply a decent looking letter.
