...And it could be worse, that is, if mass tourism and the economy in general was in full flow. How can we keep it this low is the question, not complain how high it is currently.

As a completely disempowered farang my first port of control is to 'complain how high it currently is' at every opportunity.  My second port is to move to another country thus depriving Thailand of millions of dollars.  Multiply my case by 10s of thousands and perhaps the message will get through.

I really do not think the disease is going to be half as bad as the economic destruction consequences when it's gone. Another year of complete shut down and a lot of the world will be beyond repair

As with the move from office based to home working, the longer this goes on the more people and society will be adapting, at some stage you get a paradigm shift, where it's no longer possible to return to the old model, cos the infrastructure for that has simply disappeared. At the moment, a lot of the old tourism infrastructure still exists, but for how long? Why does the phrase "a wing and a prayer" spring to mind? Actually, given the carpet baggers waiting in the wings, it might not be a bad thing.

It will be 5 years if it ever gets back to normal

Aren't submarines an effective defense from the coronavirus?

Only if you are locked tight in one and submerged. However if you decide to go down, you are never sure what virus youmay come up with!
