Cambodia and Vietnam have agreed to work together closely to prevent and fight against the COVID-19 pandemic along the border between the two nations. Their commitment was made during the 18th Meeting of the Cambodia-Vietnam Joint Commission (18th JC) on Economic, Cultural, Scientific and Technological Cooperation held via video conference on Tuesday.

The meeting was co-chaired by Foreign Affairs Minister Prak Sokhonn and his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Binh Minh. According to an outcome released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, yesterday the two leaders said they appreciated eachother’s mutual support in the prevention of the coronavirus outbreak.

“They expressed their appreciation for the effective cooperation and mutual support in the prevention of and the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic while sustaining the cross-border flow of trade in goods and maintaining investment,” it said. Cambodia in March shut down the border with Vietnam to prevent the import of  COVID-19, days after Vietnam locked down its borders with the Kingdom and imposed a month-long entry ban to foreign travellers, except for diplomats.
