Another update in the wake of Arday's resignation. The implications for Cambridge are going beyond this one case. Many inside and outside Cambridge are asking why the university was so thoroughly fooled and didn't uncover Arday's lies and fraud before he was appointed professor. University of Cambridge to review ‘relevant processes’ alongside Jason Arday investigation An investigation into Professor Arday’s employment will be carried out ‘independently by senior academics from within and beyond Cambridge’ "... The decision follows a letter signed by dozens of academics at the prestigious institution, who called for an independent inquiry into the processes surrounding the appointment." https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/jason-arday-university-cambridge-investigation-b3033024.html The crucial point in the above article is: "The findings will feed into a broader review of procedures for appointing senior roles." Cambridge may have to revise its procedures to include a more rigorous background check. No, it's because he is a liar, cheat and fraud. The accusations against Arday went beyond CV padding. He plagiarized another academic's Ph.D dissertation, which has always been the equivalent of a capital offense in the academic world. He also claimed to have raised substantial amounts of money for charity. His appointment as a Cambridge professor put a stamp of approval on his charity fund-raising efforts, BUT (and it's a big ) there's no proof he actually raised the amounts he claimed and more importantly, whether the money did indeed go to charity. I would say that anyone- white. Black, Asian, Hispanic, whatever- who falsifies their qualifications and experience to gain an advantage in the job market should be fired. It's simply not acceptable to lie and cheat in that manner.
