Sydney residents discouraged from Boxing Day shopping, some suburbs to re-enter lockdown

MELBOURNE (Reuters) - Sydney residents were urged not to head to the shops for Boxing Day bargains, while those in some northern beach suburbs prepared to re-enter a strict lockdown for three days from Sunday as the city seeks to stamp out a coronavirus outbreak.

Temperature goes up in upper Thailand, isolated heavy rain forecast for the South

The Thailand Meteorological Department said on Saturday that the high-pressure system over upper Thailand is weakening, causing the temperature to rise by 1-3 degrees Celsius with possible morning fog.

Court gives two years' jail time to red-shirt protesters for possessing grenades during 2014 protests

The Criminal Court on Friday read its verdict in a case filed by the Criminal Case Prosecutor Office against Krisada Chaikhai, aged 49 years, and Phassanai Phanas, 45, members of the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship, also known as red shirts, for violating the Arms Control Act BE 2530 during the mass protests in 2014.

11 Myanmar migrants arrested in Narathiwat while crossing over from Malaysia

The district chief of Sungai Kolok district in Narathiwat province on Friday announced the arrest of 11 male migrants from Myanmar while they were trying to enter Thailand by crossing a river in Pasemat subdistrict that serves as a border with Malaysia.

Famous Nonthaburi temple to serve as Covid-19 quarantine centre until Jan 8

Nonthaburi provincial authorities on Friday ordered Wat Boromracha Kanchanapisek Anusorn, also known as Wat Leng Noei Yi 2, a famous Chinese Buddhist temple located in Bangbuathong district, to be closed temporarily from December 25 until January 8.

Thailand confirms 110 new coronavirus infections

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand on Saturday confirmed 110 new coronavirus infections, of which 64 were local infections, connected to an outbreak in the southwest province of Samut Sakhon, the country's coronavirus worst outbreak yet.
