Thailand faces national lockdown by March if COVID-19 guidelines not followed: CCSA

Thailand faces being plunged into a new national lockdown before March but only if people fail to cooperate with the guidelines in  place to prevent the spread of the coronavirus

On Friday, Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) spokesperson DSr. Taweesilp Visanuyothin said there are no plans for a nationwide lockdown in Thailand.

However, if the local COVID-19 situation becomes uncontrollable and if there is not "proper cooperation from the people" to follow the new preventative measures put in place to combat the spread of the virus then Thailand will be in national lockdown by March, Thairath reported.

The stark warning comes as Thailand announced the introduction of COVID-19 control zones based on the threat level and strength of measures put in place.

The colours are red, orange, yellow and green, with red being provinces with the highest number of infections.

As of Saturday, of the 32 provinces where Covid-19 cases have been confirmed, the only province in the ‘red zone’, the most severe category was Samut Sakhon, the province which is the epicenter of the new wave of infections.

Also on Saturday, the CCSA announced 110 new coronavirus infections, 94 of which were domestic cases and 16 found in state quarantine.

Of the domestic cases, 64 were Thai nationals and 30 were migrant workers.

The highest number of cases were found in Bangkok and Phetchaburi which reported 18 and 10 caes, respectively. Cases were also found in Samut Prakan (7), Chai Nat (5), Ratchaburi (4), Nakhon Ratchasima (3) and Rayong (3), Chachoengsao, Chaiyaphum, Saraburi, Satun (2 cases each), while Ayutthaya, Khon Kaen, Pathum Thani, Pichit, Songkhla, Trang, each reported one case.

Why talk about March now? If this accelerates, lockdown has to be implemented much sooner.

Well, how about starting vaccinations sooner? Even Mexico, Costa Rico and Chile started to vaccinate their people with the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine already. But in Thailand, there seems to be no pressure at all and no priority to do that. Very strange.

Could there be any better proof that an end of the crisis is not at all a top priority of the Thai government, for whatever reason? Were they told by China to wait for a Chinese vaccine maybe? Or to ruin the economy even more, to make it cheaper for Chinese investors? I mean, if even Mexico is able to get and distribute the vaccine in order to protect its people, why is Thailand not?

I think the Government is waiting to develop its own vaccine so they dont have to pay another country for theirs and while there is no deaths as of yet they will more than likely keep waiting .

So there is a plan!

But this way, the government can blame it on the people.

They are waiting for the country to be completely flooded with cases it appears by waiting.  The numbers just keep expanding in many provinces now.

What new preventative measures?

They're in the 'Zero COVID' trap right now, the only way out is by failing to control it.

Lets not kid ourselves here, someone has made a choice which explains why New Year hasn't been cancelled......yet.

If no action is taken then there will inevitably be a huge outbreak in the first two to three weeks of January.

First action : Bangkok and the metropolitan area . High density population.  Lot of unventilated , air conditioned public transport , offices , department stores .... ideal environment for viral loads.

How can they vaccinate if there are no vaccines available in Thailand?   Where do you want them to get vaccine?  Other countries have the manufacturing capability or were developing and financing the vaccines so they have priority.

European Union pop. 450 million ordered 1.4 billion doses

United States pop. 330 million ordered more than 1 billion doses

Canada pop. 38 million ordered 358 million doses

United Kingdom pop 63 million ordered 350 million doses

Australia  pop 25 million ordered 140 million doses (after CSL 50 million does order cancelled)

Covax purchasing group (Thailand is a member) pop. 5.3 billion approx. has ordered  2 billion doses

(Expected to rollout end of 2021 ongoing to 2023)

Thailand will get after the countries who took the risk and invested in R&D get their vaccines.

Do you think there is a lesson in this? Maybe instead of buying new submarines or mercedes benz fleets or mia noi holiday, that paying salary of medical researchers, and paying for laboratory and manufacturing capability is a better investment in country. Maybe time to put tax on Chinese tourist to help offset cost of Covid19?

I should have my second shot of the vaccine by then. I will be off to the races and Thailand will be in lockdown..

Forward thinking of the government coming to light as usual. CCP got Thailand covered no worries.

I was dead wrong about Thailand opening up, it will be on hold threw 2021 into 2022 looks like.

Maybe you are right. I think the Thais were exploring a vaccine based on chilis and fish sauce.

2025 then

Looks like thats my pencilled in trip at easters gone for a burton.

Looks like the provincial governors will be locking down their provinces when they decide it needs to be done. This is now spreading rapidly and the government does not have it under control as they said. Just look at Ratong now and the latest info is they are now in lockdown.

Right next to the Kamagra Jelly, Viagra, and the other myriads of medication for those seeking a good time.  New TAT Slogan will be "Vaccinate in Thailand and let our People rock your World"

If only we could have Hunter S' take on it all, or George's.......then it might start to take shape and make a modicum of sense.
