Court gives two years' jail time to red-shirt protesters for possessing grenades during 2014 protests

The Criminal Court on Friday read its verdict in a case filed by the Criminal Case Prosecutor Office against Krisada Chaikhai, aged 49 years, and Phassanai Phanas, 45, members of the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship, also known as red shirts, for violating the Arms Control Act BE 2530 during the mass protests in 2014.

The two were arrested with 20 anti-personnel fragmentation grenades in Bangkok’s Bang Sue district and had confessed to their crimes.

The court gave two years' prison time to both defendants, reducing the original sentence of four years due to their confession and cooperation with the investigation. However, only Phassanai will serve the two-year sentence as Krisada, on March 12, had already been given a life sentence by the Criminal Court for throwing a grenade on a stage during a rally of the People's Democratic Reform Committee, also known as yellow shirts, on January 19, at Victory Monument, resulting in one death and 26 injured.

2 years for possessing some grenades, absolute result!

It is an achievement of this government that we no longer hear from the red shirts

One has to wonder where civilians acquire hand grenades, I don't think they get them from 7/11! ????

Yes, lucky they did not have a nuke or they'd have had no reduction from their 5 years sentences

20 anti-personnel grenades.

And yet the man who gave the order to murder unarmed people in a temple complex, stole the country and for 6 years dictating all, persecuting the poor woman who bore witness as she helped the wounded and dying and any who complained about military corruption and sent to prison. Yes how sickening that people on here hail the destruction of the rightful ruling party.

and yet Boss (who did kill someone) is still free.  ????

Yes, and it took 6 years to reach that judgement.

They are so busy....actually they don't have time to this judgement.

Frag grenades?

It's a fragmented country.

throwing grenade at victory monument and killing one - life sentence.

shooting from machine gun into crowd and killing one - 37 years, 4 months.

A year before supreme court sentence, he was acquitted.

He was assisted by a group of around 10 armed gangsters (known to police and army - but never captured), all dressed in army gear.

Who see double standards here?
