Kingdom of Cambodia sees the first drop of oil after years in waiting

Prime Minister Hun Sen this morning has announced that Cambodia began extracting its first oil production in the long-awaited Block A in the Gulf of Cambodia. Mr Hun Sen said: “I, on behalf of the Royal Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia, am very pleased to inform all our compatriots about the start of Cambodia’s first oil production in Block A, Gulf of Cambodia, which is the long-awaited oil production for Cambodia.

 

Due to the efforts of the Royal Government and the active participation of KrisEnergy, the operator of this project, we have so far achieved the successful completion of the construction, installation of the necessary equipment and facilities for the production of our oil and gas resources.”

 

PM Hun Sen continued that the first drop of oil from Cambodia will start production from the first oil well A-0ID of Platform A in the block of the Gulf of Cambodia on December 29, 2020, which coincides with the 22nd anniversary of ending the war which brought national unity and territorial unity through the win-win policy (December 29, 1998 – December 29, 2020). He said December 29, 1998 gave us all the advantage to have the first drop of oil in Cambodia on December 29, 2020.

At the same time as the world switches to non petroleum fuels - rather missed the bus I suspect.

As fuel , might take another decade or 2 , but ok .

Oil is used for many other things , in fact only 40 % is used to make gasoline . Most is used to make different products , all of what you see around you . Oil goes in a cracker , breaks it down to ethylene and/or propylene , from there the cycle of chemicals begin ending with everything from food , soaps , paints , medicines , you name it ...

That cycle of oil wont go away any time soon .
