Thai govt approves Chinese New Year as official holiday in 2021

Featured Replies

Once they finish their campaign and end up with 365 public holidays, at least they won't have any unemployment. An economic masterpiece

  • Should spread the virus around nicely......good to see Thailand takes yet another stride in the direction of becoming no more than a province of China.

  • Thai citizens that love their country should think about changing the head of government, he's has been (bit by bit) selling the country to China

Minus the influx of Chinese and possibly another Songkran cancellation.

But the Civil servants who are all salaried will benefit while the rest work as normal.

On which of those EXTRA holidays are the Main Banks shut, as if not shut no impedance of transferred funds, but if shut another logistical nightmare to get your money from abroad

When will they ever learn.

It's only 2563 this year in Thailand, please be patient, it takes time!

an additional day off for Songkran on April 12

I knew that. Just surprised they hesitated to add Friday 16th to make a nice 9 day(!) Songkran (10 to 18) Travel madness from April 9.

But be assured that in reality it will be or do you think many will be ready at the workplace on the 16th?

Make no mistake—we know who the favored tourists are.  They arrive in white busses. And follow pendants and small toys mounted on wooden rods.

If this is just a one off thing in 2021,then it is nothing as the date falls on a Friday to coincide with the weekend to be a super long weekend.

However, if this is an official date for 2022 and beyond ,then the Thai government is bowing to China's influence.

What if more tourists from Indians and Ethiopians or Muslims will Thai government add their new year too? LOL

Oh dear, possible delays to crediting pension payments if the main offices of banks are closed??

I think it would be easier just to list the days they are working.

The most glorious, enlightened, and heavenly Emperor Xi’s birthday is June 15.

Since there are no other holidays that week…the Hero-General and his loyal accomplishes would have time to lead the country in some truly cringe-worthy praise, worship and devotional adoration.

Another opportunity to let the boss know....Thailand cares.

It would have been prudent to hold off announcing new holidays until it's clear when the next lockdown will be over.

Every baht can be spent one time only, whether for an extra holiday or alternatively for something different. So as long as there is no "fresh / additional" money coming in, there is no substantial increase in economy by extra holidays, the more as many companies do not observe these extra government holidays.

Another great idea from this Government, don't forget where this virus originated from, so let the Chinese in to spread the virus...

Oh, I forgot they will have to do 14 day quarantine, so the Chinese New year will have finished by the time to be released ????????

more boot licking and bending over

Maybe a stupid question, but are the four "regional" holidays also National holidays?

Or are they just observed in some set of provinces associated with the regional designation?
