And four days for Songkran.  Party time - more infections.

When will they ever learn.

When the education system is overhauled and run by the upcoming youth.

The upside to all this covid stuff is that it should hopefully kill off all the old incumbents that have too much influence over the running of the country.

Do you recollect one of Thailand's resident geniuses saying the pandemic would be over by Songkran-2020.....the water would wash it away.......by the looks of it things are going to be even worse for Songkran-2021.

My staff will not be getting any additional days off.

With public holidays, annual leave, sick leave and personal leave it is a surprise if they are even at work at all!

Will the celebrations include imprisoning some journalists?  You know, just to make them feel at home.

Maybe some high profile abductions just to add to the spice?

That made me laugh

National holidays should be paid holidays. Why not just raise the minimum wage too and let people use their additional pay.

May as well just make it a 365 day holiday eh.

Nobody works, everyone gets fat and lazy and the economy tanks.

did they? is "chinese new year" as an official holiday being added to the calendar?

they approved 4 (temporary? this year only?) holidays, one of which just happened to also be chinese new year.  there was no mention (bing translate) of chinese new year in the linked article.

given the number of days in the calendar, minus weekends, minus current holidays, odds are one of the holidays will align with some other.......oh look!  feb 12 is the start of carnival in rio!  there goes thailand selling out to the brazillions.

So you dont want to approve Farang New Year?

Culture Minister Ittipol Khunpluem

The Cabinet on Tuesday approved 24 public holidays for 2021, which will include additional days off added to the calendar, Culture Minister Ittipol Khunpluem said.

The extra days off include Chinese New Year on February 12. This is the first time that Chinese New Year has been recognised as a public holiday.

Also included is an additional day off for Songkran on April 12, July 27 as a substitution for Buddhist Lent day on July 25, and Prince Mahidol day on September 24.

Meanwhile, the substitution for King Chulalongkorn Memorial Day has been shifted to October 22 from October 25 to allow for a long weekend.

The Cabinet also approved regional public holidays such as May 10 for Bun Bang Fai (Rocket Festival) day in the Northeast.

The minister said these extra holidays will give people a chance to spend and help boost the subdued economy.

Government deputy spokesperson Traisuree Taisaranakul said these special holidays will only be applicable to 2021.

I was thinking maybe two calendars will be issued for next year, a working calendar and a holiday calendar.
