My Non O expired 10 April 2007 and I submitted all the paperwork for an extension (my 5th) based on income.

They stamped me to return 4 May whereas they usually give me 30 days. Not forgetting Song Kran was in this period.

On 3 May they restamped me to return on 8 May , which in effect was one working day.

On 8 May they restamped me to return on 9 May, another 1 day.

If today they still don't have a decision or I get refused, do they expect me to get out immediately, or go across the border ( walk) and return as visa exempt.

Mae Sai Imm and support wife visa.

Finally they say they await the decision from Chiang Mai.....why not Suan Plu?

After 5 years of basically no problems I feel as if I might be up to my neck in the brown stuff. :o

That is odd, I did a one year extension in March, was given one month and came back one month later to find my extension approved. In previous years it had taken a minimum of 3 months.

Precisely SBK, that is why I posted. Normally I would wait 6-7 weeks and then get approval.

I am making my sixth trip up to MaeSai today in less than a month, AND I have to drag my wife along....not literally :o

Hi OneeyedJohn

As an aside, but still relevant, what paperwork did you show for this extension? Letter from your Embassy alone, or letter and supporting documents?

I am only up to number 3 extension, and so far have only had the 1 month "wait" each time. Will be intersting to see what happens at the end of next month :o

You should not need your wife to pick up an extension of stay approval - only on applications are they required to attend/sign.

There have been a huge number of holidays during your 30 day time so expect that is indeed the problem - it seems the directive is to provide decision in 30 days or less now so they are probably afraid to provide longer extensions.

There was talk about more decision making in the regional units so it could well be that Chiang Mai is now making the call.

It took me 29 days to get my extension and only just got the extension yesterday even though I was due to collect it today.

Seems there is no norm in this approval process. I know of people that have been given the final 1 year stamp immediately and others that have had it 2-3 days later.

I have also got the stamp 2 and 3 weeks later but this time 29 days!

One thing is for certain. I have never seen immigration so busy as it has been on my several visits in the past month. With all of these foreigners say on the forum they are going elsewhere seems they are busier than ever at the sacred Suan Plu

Paperwork was 2 copies of everything as per normal all signed by myself and collated into two neat symmetrical piles with computer enhanced photos pinned on top. :D

The only extra this time was a letter from the Embassy stipulating my pension after providing documentary evidence from the UK of that pension.

A small aside....yesterday when I drove up on my own, I was so nervous that at the first police checkpoint I approached, I began smiling and waving at the cardboard cutout policeman they have propped up beside all the tires. Get a grip man :D

Thanks Oneeyed John

Did you enclose the documentary evidence from the UK of that pension in your application, or just the letter?

My reason for asking is that my Embassy do not require any supporting documents for the income letter / declaration.

Yep, the sometimes, very life like cut outs of the police can trick you :o:D
