BANGKOK, Dec 30 (TNA) – The chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce said the special long holidays that the government announced would be beneficial to tourism.

Kalin Sarasin, the chairman, made the comment in response to the long holidays for next year that the cabinet approved in its meeting on Dec 29. He said most operators agreed with the resolution although the holidays might have some impacts on export-oriented production.

What is the point in having more holidays for people who have less money now because of covid 19 and encouraging more movement spreading the virus all over the country  crazy

Most of the people who need the money will still be working anyway. From what I've seen of the more professional and well-paid types that I know and work with, they've been making the most of the extra holidays we've had, travelling and spending.
These holidays were announced a few days ago but some are months away. I doubt they'll stand if the virus is still spreading.

because most thai do work 6 days week and for very long hours, 10-12h daily, it would be nice for them to have extra days off.

Practically there is no meaning for recreation holidays, as in most of the world, where there is statutory payed holiday 20-30 days per year (depending on country, profession, time of employment with the compoany etc).

many employers are scared that these holiday arrangements for 2021 would be permanent

It's basically a civil servant thing.

It means higher costs for employers. Prices will rise.

This is ludicrous. On one hand they are increasing public holidays and promoting travel & tourism and on the other hand they have just slapped a ban on any activities called a gathering! This government is in utter disarray and the general public must be getting totally confused and businesses completely despondent.

Some of the holidays are months away. And if we're just reading and commenting on the story above, apparently 'most operators' agree with the idea.

Pigs bottom. No bonus for working above your hours here mate only OT, TIT.

Prices will rise anyway with one coorpiration in control of the food distribution.

If things keep going the way they are the Private Sector could catch a 'bad cold' on this one.

A very small percentage of tourism workers..... cut the spin and find some long term solutions.
