The Thai cabinet has approved an 11 billion baht budget to fund the procurement of medical equipment, vaccines and medicines to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and to compensate about one million public health volunteers for three months, from January to March next year.

Deputy Government spokesperson Ratchada Thanadirek said today (Wednesday) that about 4.3 billion baht of the 11 billion will be used to implement five projects, namely risk compensation for about a million public health volunteers, estimated at 1.5 billion baht, 503 million for the procurement of medical equipment, medicines and laboratories to fight the contagion, 1.8 billion for COVID-19 vaccines, 24 million for the development of laboratories for COVID-19 testing and 419 million baht to make other preparations to cope with the pandemic.

About 6.9 billion baht will be allocated for the treatment of infected people. Ratchada said that the money is enough to meet the immediate demand and the spending can be checked and examined to ensure transparency and accountability. Meanwhile, the governor of Thailand’s eastern province of Chon Buri ordered the lockdown of Bang Lamung district, after 108 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in a single day.

Are people allowed to travel to Pattaya?

I believe that ingress and egress are going to be controlled going in or out in order to stop the virus spread. However, its not looking good. Small now but growing.

The manpower involved to do what you suggest must be staggering?

How will they manage that, close roads / checkpoints etc?

Burmese have manage to come across international borders and you think the authorities can manage provinces?

They did it in March and April which caused massive headaches for the community if memory serves me correctly.

1.8 billion for COVID-19 vaccines ... spending can be checked and examined to ensure transparency and accountability.

there was already 6bln for 26mln doses of astra-zeneca vaccination being made in thailand. That works $7.68 per shot. Same vax in the EU costs only $2.18.

another 1.8bln for another, unnamed vax.

singapore is already vaccinating for over a weak.

indonesia is starting distribution of their vax just in few days, and on a large scale.

malaysia is starting in february and will cover 83% of population.

thailand might start their program sometimes in the second half of 2021 for 13mln people (some 20%)

examined, check and mate

I guess that the price in EU is lower, only because EU, unlike Thailand, has financed the development of the vaccine.

Yes but absolutely no reason to unless you really need to see a crappy, dirty beach.

from yesterday's Financial Times "AstraZeneca has pledged to sell the vaccine at cost to developing nations in perpetuity, a condition insisted upon by Oxford university. Supply deals indicate a single dose will be priced at about $3 to $4".

so where is $3.68 to $4.68 gone?

On top of it - this vax will be made in thailand, not imported. So no very high production costs in Europe, no  intercontinental transportation, with taxes, duties on the way etc

The submarines will have to be smaller I guess !

our research has shown that once the gravy has been distributed to all the necessary agencies  there will be

approximately 13,  498   baht remaining to combat this dreaded pandemic.

"we all must work together ! "
