Featured Replies

Does someone know the English translation of a small fruit, as big as a grape and purple of colour, which is called "Luukhwaa" or in northern Thai language "Makiang" ?

ลูกหว้า (Luk Wah/Wah Fruit)

Thai name : หว้า (Wah)

Common Names : Bo Tree, Sacred Fig Tree, Pipal Tree, peepul tree

Scientific name : Syzygium cumini (L.) Skeels

Anyway , Luukhwaa(ลูกหว้า) and Makiang (มะเกี๋ยง) are not the same species .But they just look alike each other.

Wah is Eugenia cumini /Syzygium cumini (L.) Skeels

Makiang is Cleistocalyx nervosum var. paniala

Wah fruit is not sour whereas Makiang is sour

Wah fruit ripes in May.On the other hand Makiang ripes in September.

The illustrations show the figure of Makiang
