Protesters have scheduled a gathering at Thung Mahamek police station to support 13 leaders who were charged over a petition handed to the German Embassy.

The United Front of Thammasat and Demonstration group announced on their Facebook page on Wednesday that “tomorrow [January 7], 13 alleged offenders in the German Embassy case are scheduled to meet with the prosecuting attorney at Thung Mahamek police station. We have organised a meeting in front of the station from 10am. If you have no trouble going there, please join us to provide support to the 13 protesters”, it said.

Pro-democracy activists of the Ratsadon group had led a march to the German Embassy on Sathorn Road on the evening of October 26 to submit a petition asking the German government to look into whether His Majesty the King rules Thailand from Germany.

The 13 protest leaders were later summoned by the police and charged with violation of the Criminal Code’s Section 112, which punishes criticism of the monarchy with up to 15 years in jail.
