More calls to legalize casinos - "line the state's coffers, not mafia pockets"

They should open legal casinos, but only allow entry to non Thais. Other countries run casinos on that basis. Obviously your passport would be your nationality identifier for entry, because as a foreigner you have to have one to get into Thailand. Will be a big hit with the Chinese when they return.

Look over the border at the disaster in Cambodia that the Chinese and their gambling have caused.

Sikhanoukville went from a beautiful, serene beach resort to a crime infested, polluted, dump of a dustbowl. The border casinos are a blight on the landscape and attract crime.

Nay, nay and thrice nay.

Legalization, sure, but something tells me we'll still see mafia, loan sharks and corruption as soon as it opens and regulations and political responsibilities goes out of the window.

You are 100% correct. It’s like that in countries thats has legal gambling. What makes people think it would change from such behaviors.

They play lucky numbers now. Is that not gambling? When nobody wins, who keeps the money? That money should have been placed in a fund so when things like this pandemic happen they have money to give the people back that has no jobs.

This is why they don’t want gambling because others will get parts of that money.

That's a good point.

Years ago when someone in government (can't remember who) was challenged as to why gambling was illegal, but they ran a lottery.

The answer was that the lottery is not gambling, but 'a game of chance'.

Just the same as all gambling, I would have thought.

it's Thai logic at work, although many would argue that Thai and logic are not compatible.

You'd be surprised...they might just go for it now that desperation sets in with the loss of billions in tourism revenues, never put any nee jerk moves by the governments to fill back their empty coffers...

The Thai coffers are full.. The Government have Billions in reserve 100s of billions.
