Soldiers from the Fifth Infantry Regiment under the Fourth Army Area were monitoring the border in Songkhla's Sadao district to prevent smuggling of migrant workers from Malaysia on Wednesday.

Malaysia has been hit by a severe outbreak of Covid-19, with new cases rising by around 4,000 per day.

Thirteen Thais stranded in Malaysia returned to Thailand on Wednesday and underwent screening and quarantine as per Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration measures.

Hardly. The border is closed except for returnees and the passage of freight. Danok and Golok are ghost towns. It's only the smugglers that are still operating, and that's what they are increasing their surveillance of.
