Police commit justifiable homicide in Nakhon Ratchasima

Police shot and killed a drug dealer who resisted arrest.

Police of Phra Thong Kham precinct in Nakhon Ratchasima province received reports of a shooting in the Phra Thong Kham semi-district and immediately rushed to the area. Upon arrival, officers found Mr. Wiwat Shinnongwang (วิวัฒน์ ชินหนองแวง) dead at the scene, and investigative officers from Phra Thong Kham precinct led by Pol. Sgt. Maj. Sawek Champokrang (เสวก แจ่มโพธิ์กลาง) waiting in the area.

Pol. Sgt. Maj. Sawek reported that he and several other officers were conducting a narcotic suppression operation following intelligence that a drug agent was peddling amphetamine pills to students and laborers in the vicinity. Undercover officers approached Mr. Wiwat with the pretense of purchasing drugs.

Pol. Sgt. Maj. Sawek alleged that as he identified himself to make the arrest, the suspect attempted to flee and fired upon officers, resulting in an exchange of gunfire which left Mr. Wiwat dead. Authorities will be conducting further investigations into the incident.

Now that's excellent work! Investigating, apprehending, prosecuting, sentencing and executing, all done by one single person. Who said the police is not efficient?

get real Bubba. And read the thread CAREFULLY!!

Clearly stated the suspect fled and fired upon the officers. Maybe where you come from the police would not act accordingly.

Whatever, it's one less drug peddler in Thailand. Honestly, these people are scum. They sell chemicals that ruin lives and deserve it.

Even if he'd have been arrested all that was in store for him was a nice death sentence.

In that spirit - lets go and kill all liquor shop owners as well.

A girl's arm was recently chopped off by an off-duty policeman and his superiors tried to cover up for him. A policeman shot a man, ran over his girlfriend with his car and then put a few bullets in the back of her head before fleeing to a neighbouring country before surrendering later on. A policeman lost it an an intersection and shot 3 passengers sitting in a truck. A policeman...

Are you still 100% sure this guy is a drug peddler?

I am all for the way convicted (proven beyong a reasonable doubt) drug dealers/traffickers are prosecuted in Thailand. I wish they would do the same here. I agree with the above post though...we only know one side of the story and the other side you will never hear. There seems to be quite a few stories of police officers in Thailand that are just a bit off balance.

There was a similar incident a couple of weeks ago close to the MiL's house. Police arrived at the house of a "suspected" drug dealer, the guy saw them and fled out the back door. The police made chase and the body was brought back and thrown in the back of the pick-up.

Was he actually a drug dealer ? Everyone says NO, he had had a run in with the local plod a few weeks earlier on a completely unrelated issue. He went up the tree to complain, local cop got his hand slapped.

Revenge exacted.

The strange thing is that everybody up there thinks this is normal, they tried it on once with the FiL. Threatened to accuse him of dealing in yaba, which everyone knows is a "nice" way of saying we will kill you. Luckily he has very good connections with the BiB and is was dealt with in a nice face saving manner.

But he still wants a new gun for his birthday, purely for protection purposes.

All these things happen. Nevertheless, there are still criminals in Thailand, and there are plenty of drugs and drug dealers, and there are shoot outs in which the offenders do fire at the cops. Just because there are many cops which are more criminal than the people they arrest, does not mean that there are not also plenty of criminals that aren't cops.

I`ve personally witnessed more criminal acts committed by policemen ( mostly collecting tea money or accepting bribes ), than criminal acts committed by regular citizens. I trust the average citizen while...

As for their investigative skills and criminal reports... :o

It is a huge mistake to underestimate the skills of Thai police. There are many sorts around, of course you have incompetent criminals whose main inspiration to enter the force were the side benefits. But you also have highly capable and intelligent officers as well.

Thai police may not have the scientific skills of a western police force, and does not have much sophisticated equipment. But Thai police has an incredibly wide network of informers and under cover agents. And some of their elite units are very capable.

They Thai police is not just a low level traffic cop taking some bribes at a street corner from which you can extrapolate to the whole force.
